Hi everyone. I'm trying to fix my marker lights in my grille of my 1973 Mercury Comet. I removed the wiring from the light housings. Are the sockets removable? I see autokrafters sells new wiring with a socket but they look to be only two wire? Mine are three because they have a ground that connects to the socket itself. Would these work anyways? Also how do you remove the original sockets from the light housing? Thank you.
With enough force you can remove the sockets, but they are not supposed to be removable from the buckets.
I wonder how you're supposed to replace them then? Maybe I can find just the plastic inner pieces and wiring. I'm also wondering on mine it only has a ground wire on the driver side grille light.
They were made as an assembly, the bucket, socket, and connector. Outside of replacing the bucket assembly, I do not think Ford made them to be serviceable. If you are handy with a dremel tool you could remove the socket from the bucket and possibly slot the bucket to accept a twist in type socket or a push in similar to the brake lights.
