    Hi!

My 1976 Comet looks low on the back, especially on the right side. I changed the shocks about 3 years ago and it does not feel as if they'd gone wrong (car still feels like she handles well, doesn't get loose or anything). So I'm thinking I need to change the leaf springs, how can I be sure? What should I inspect / look for?

    Thank you guys!!!

    Cheers

Shocks don't support the weight of the vehicle, that job is done by the springs.

How much of a difference are we talking about? My car sits about 1" lower on the rear left side; all shocks and springs have been replaced. It was like that when I got it and still low on that side. I have seen a few others lean slightly to one side. All you can do at this point is replace springs and see what happens. All I am saying, don't be too disappointed if after replacing springs, you don't get the results your hoping for.

Thank you guys, I'll look into changing the springs then.

As for changing them possibly not changing the "one side more than the other" issue, no worries ;) I know it's never that straight to star with. But it did sag since I got it so I'll def look into changing the springs.

    Cheers!

Is that low at the frame or low at the body, wheel well, bumper?

    Hi Jett:
SUMMIT Racing sells an item called ' add-a-leaf ' .. There are a couple of options .. they make LONGER spring
leafs , and SHORT ones for placing on the lower portion of your existing Leaf Spring. I've used them before and
they work great. They're not that hard to install.

Your leafsprings are 40 years-old. They need to be replaced.

Lower at bumper, wheel well and body. It is not very noticeable, have to look hard to tell it - took me awhile b4 it was obvious to me. It don't bother me; going to drive it and enjoy like it is.

The body doesn't mount to anything. It's a uni-body car.

Okay, the body must not be attached then, right?

my wifes 72 maverick has a 'list' like that, on the RH side. we did the front end completely and it straightened the car out. I was going to replace the leafs but after we did that its dead straight now. go figure, I wouldn't have guessed it. Not saying that's your solution but keep it in mind.

So I'm gathering the parts for the job, bushing and all, any recommendations as to where to order the leaf springs knowing I'm based in SoCal so was hoping to not have to ship them from the East Coast haha

    Thanks!
