Hi i have a 71 mach 1 rear end i believe to be a 2L75 9 inch that i want to put in my 70 maverick.. I have been researching and understand it is 5 inches wider then the stock rearend.. Is there any offset of wheel i could run so i dont have to cut the rear end down? Rolling fenders? I am running stock 67 mustang steel rims.. All advice and opinions welcome.. Thankyou

How much horsepower do you plan on putting at the rear wheels ? What size Rear End is in
your 70 Now ? Mine came with an 8" 4-Lug and I converted to 5 Lug and a Gear. Sometimes an 8" inch Maverick or Comet Rear End will suffice. No cutting , just Gear. JMHO . We have a 72 Maverick with a 347 Stroker and an 8" EquaLok. and it's holding up well, and a 70 Maverick 5.0 FI with an 8" inch with 3:55 Richmond gear setup (equalok) and it does fine.

Im running a mild built 351w... I bought the car with the 7 1/4 rearend dont know if it was factory or not.. I got the 9 inch for a deal and its a solid rear end.. And i plan on stroking the 351w in the near future..

I would cut it down, probably cheaper in the long run, trying to stuff the wheel with enough backspace into the fenderwell would be difficult and the longer axles will be more prone to twisting.

If you could stuff some wheels in there they would have to have around 6" backspace

Yep ! I'd agree with Maverick Mike .. Get the 9" incher and Cut it to Fit YOUR car . With a stroked 351 you're
going to need a 9" incher for sure. We stroked two cars , one a 427 and one a 408 and they definitely merit a
9" inch rear end. An 8" incher wouldn't stay together long. Also if you can avoid the other aspects like fender rolling,
wheel backspacers , etc. It would save you a lot of time .There are lots of 9" inchers out there .. and there are people that will make it ' fit ' for your car without a lot of time wasted. I wish you success in whichever direction you go .

Shops in or near sacramento just arnt reasonble every place i called wants $500+ to cut and reweld.. Id do it myself if i had the jig..That doesnt include shortening the axles.. I found an 8 inch rim with a 5.5 offset im going to bolt it up and see what kind of issues i run into.. Summit has a few options..

Another option, call Brydon http://www.ebay.com/itm/9-Inch-Ford...m568817931a:m:mkUhyaa6y0_XkgcaeXJ0brA&vxp=mtr, several members, along with myself have purchased from him. Also offers better axles if you decide to up your 351W in the future....

I have a 70 Mustang 9" in mine, was 2" wider on each side. I had my wheels widened 2" to the inside, were 15X6, now they're 15X8.

At that time it only cost $100/wheel and $30-couple dollars shipping.

I have no idea if this would work but late model Mustang wheels have all the offset to the outside. I wonder how close it be to working. I have a 9" Versailles rear in mine which is a little wider than a stock 8" and I'm using spacers to use 07 Mustang wheels. Just food for thought.

So, it's very possible to run late model wheels. It's been so long since I put thesee on my car but I think my spacers are 1.5".

If that's the case they should work with out the spacers on a 60" rear end

Ok the rearend is in and im using 68 mustang steel wheels 14x7 with a 4inch backspace.. Sits nice I dont see why it wouldnt work.. I cant find any wider rims with 5.5 or 6 inch backspace..Should i use a spacer for the front wheels to get them closer to the width of the rear end?

I wouldn't add spacers anywhere unless absolutely needed. In fact, here in PA it's illegal to have a wheel spacer thicker than 1/4".
