I'm adding a v8 and T5 to my car. Since the crossmember isn't made I decided to give it a try at making my own. The recent one is pretty promising but now I'm thinking the metal might not be thick enough. How thick do you think the metal should be for the crossmember? The one pictured is made from 16 gauge steel. Haven't welded the gaps yet.

Honestly I think it's too thin also. Weak points would be at the mounting tabs where it bolts up to the frame.

Yea. I wil probably just finish making it and then find someone who can recreate it with the exact dimensions.

Just bend up another piece to match the outer frame shape and weld it on the outside and fill the gaps and maybe gusset it at the other bend points and I think you would be good to go. Kudos to you for the attempt

    I'll give that a try.
This car has definitely tested my mechanical abilities and is slowly turning me into a frabricator. Makes me love the car even more.

The stock one is probably at least 12 gauge.

The aftermarket trans mount I have on my Falcon is a lot thicker.

Damn. I definitely need to beef mine up compared to that one. The parts fairy somehow tossed my original one out when I started the conversion.
