i need help determining which size axle bearings i neeed to repalce th eone on my 58 ford 9 inch rock auot calls for 2 different ones small bearing one is listed 2.835 width the other is 3.151 i need to find out before i order an dits kinda hard to measure when they r still on the axles
You need to measure to be sure. My '63 Falcon hardtop should of came with the small sedan bearings but it came with the larger station wagon/Ranchero/taxi bearings. Ford wasn't going to stop the production line if the correct rear end wasn't nearby...they used what was available to keep the line rolling.
If the rear end has not been altered then the small bearing rear end will have 3/8" bolts holding the backing plate on and the big bearing rear end will have 1/2" bolts and the spacing between bolts will be 3 3/8" for small bearing and 3 1/2 or 3 9/16" for big bearing
Careful ordering from Rock Auto. They're parts listings are not spot on. You're looking at the diameter of the bearings, not the width here. I looked up a flywheel for a guy over on the Ford Truck forums and they list the wrong flywheel for his truck (95 F150 with a 5.0) He ended up with a 28 oz/in wheel where his truck requires a 50 oz/in.
