So I purchased a 71 Maverick Grabber last Summer and just now getting it on the road. But I bought it without the door and trunk locks installed. They did not come with the car. The ignition is fine. Does anybody know if I can purchase these online anywhere? Or do I need to post this in a "Parts wanted" section and keep an eye out on ebay? Id almost prefer brand new to have a better possibility of lasting longer than OEM from someone but I'm open for I would like to lock this thing up in the future.

Sorry if I posted in a wrong forum. I searched and found nothing. Figured it was a freak thing to purchase a car without the door and trunk locks to begin with but... I did. :)

    Any help would be appreciated!

I believe I got my set from Melvin's. You want to get a full set that includes the ignition switch. Otherwise, you will have three keys for your car.

You might be able to get a locksmith to rekey used replacement but after 40+ years they and your ignition switch are probably worn out. You will have to pull the steering wheel. Not a big deal.

You might be able to get door locks keyed to match the existing steering lock, just based off the ignition key.

I had a locksmith do that for my house ... 3 different keys when I moved in. Took the hardware to him, and he had to base his work on one "cheap chinese deadbolt" in the whole set that he did not want to mess with. He made all the other locks work based off of that key. There are pins in the locks that are different lengths, and might be replaceable with new ones if the car locks work the same.

Maybe I'm off here but the doors and trunk share a key and the ignition has its own, is that correct? I never got keys with mine so I am going by memory and it's been a long time since I have driven an old Ford.

Old Fords have common door & ign key and common glove box(if equipped) & trunk key... In the middish 80s to early '90s ign became separate key with door, trunk and glove box a common key...

On my Comet, I had a couple new keys for a long gone in dash ign lock that I repined my doors & ign to... Had those keys since my first '57 Ford that used a single side key, neighbor that worked at Ford plant gave me the lock & keys but would not fit my car... No idea how I managed to keep them for something like 47 years(been 50 now, I repinned locks three years ago)...

That's right, I knew there were two keys but didn't remember the usage.

I decided to go this route to eliminate a key:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Door-Tr...ash=item51ea7b28de:g:IMAAAOSwMmBV2End&vxp=mtr

If link don't work, it is a new set of locks for 2 doors and trunk keyed the same off of ebay. And I don't have to mess with the ignition that is fine. The seller specializes in door locks. Guess he worked them to accept the same key? Should get them in a few days and can't wait to see if I done well or wasted money. LOL

hmmmm, I guess if thats what you want then good for you. Just reminds me of the older chevies, they did that and I hated it, you had to open the door with one key, then fumble around looking for the ignition key, sorry, just not for me.

I RARELY lock my vehicles since most of them require an original written owners manual to drive them. LOL And I'm in a habit of hiding the ignition keys inside me vehicle cause I'm the world's worst of loosing keys. And I have a fleet...

So it's actually a better scenario for myself. But I've never considered myself as normal. :)

You are referring to the "Ignition and door" set for $34.95. I also need the trunk lock for $18.95. And add 3 door/trunk lock gaskets for $4.50. That's $58.40. Add S&H and it appears I did well so far with my purchase considering I know how fragile the stock retainers are and my purchase includes all new retainers.

Thanks for the comparison though! I will fall back on this if my purchase ends out to be a waste.
