HI everyone. I'm looking at a 302 that the guy had mated to a five speed. I want to put it in my Comet mounted to my c4. Is their anything I need different to mate it to my c4?

If your C4 is mounted to a 250, it has the bellhousing that will bolt to the 302. If you have a 200 with C4, that is a weaker transmission and wrong bellhousing. The T5 has a different bellhousing too that should stay with that transmission when you pull it.

302/C4 bellhousings are very common and easy to located.

I think from early posts - he has a 250.
But yes, more info would be nice. :)

You will need to take the pilot bearing out of the crankshaft on the 302. Since the 302 has a 5 speed I am guessing that it is a roller motor and if that is the case you will have to change a few items on the motor for it to fit such as oil pan. Do your research first

I do have a 250. Sorry about lack of info. Trying to get that. It's originally out of a truck, the guy had it in a mustang with the five speed before this.

I'm also looking at a 302 out of an 86 lincoln mated to a aod transmission. Would like to mate that to my c4.

You still need to know year or at least the balance of flywheel he used.. Balance changed from 28oz to 50oz in '82... With wrong flexplate you'll have a giant paint shaker...

The 302 in the 86 lincoln is fuel injected. I'd like carb. What all would I have to change on it to make it fuel injected? Also being that it has an aod trans, what would I have to change to mate it to my c4? Thanks guys.

You would need the correct flex plate, not sure which the 250 uses though. If it's 157 tooth you have to go aftermarket to get the 50 oz piece, if it's 28 oz you can pick up a used one.

The 250 is 157 tooth and will bolt up to a 302...but it is zero oz. imbalance. So the flywheel/flex plate will need to be changed unle$$ machine work has been done to the 302 to make it zero imbalanced.

Knew you couldn't use the 250 flex plate, just wasn't sure the tooth count. Looks like it will be an aftermarket part for his application, Summit sells them for a reasonable price, that's where I bought mine from.

Thanks RMiller, and rthomas. Guy wants like 150 for the 302 that was mated to the five speed and the guy with the 86 lincoln wants 50 dollars for his 302 that is fuel injected, I'd like to make it carb powered though, meaning intake and whatever else. So both will work as long as I get a new or correct flywheel?

Hi guys, update. The 302 that was mated to a five speed is a 1980 year engine. Thanks so much for all the help everyone. This forum is beyond helpful with the best and most knowledgeable people around!

Did the engine come out of a car or truck? I'm not 100% sure, but I know someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I want to say a truck came with a 164 tooth...not 157 like came in the cars. (I could be confused about a 351 truck engine)
