I just got a 1973 Mercury Comet GT with a 200 cubic inch inline six. I need to do an oil change and coolant change. It would be great if someone could tell me the correct amount of fluid that the engine and cooling system hold. Thanks!

Also I forgot to ask, what type of oil do I need?

Oil capacity with filter change for 6cyl is 4.5qts... Cooling system dry is 8.75qt but unless you drain block you'll never get that much in it... Even then heater core is going to be holding nearly a quart...

For oil any name brand 5w-30, 10w-30 or 10w-40 is fine... If you're down where it gets really hot I'd go 10w-40... If it burns/leaks, you may want to consider one of the high mileage oils...
