this is going to sound stupid, but what am i doing wrong when ordering wheel cylinders for my maverick? its a 72 with a 250. i thought i checked the description right on rock auto for the fronts. the ones i had sent to me were to big to fit the backing plate and bolt in. also the two bolts that hold them in were to small for the new part. do they make two different size wheel cylinders for a 250 drum brake? seems i need the smaller version of what they sent me. what info did i get wrong when ordering this? do i need to order them for a 170-200cid drum car?
Apparently it depends on original tire size, cars with D70x14 got the 302 size brakes, I dunno if that means they had the five lug drums... The D2ZZ number is same as Stang, those were all five lug...
ye sim confused also on it. this car is 5 lugs. here are some pics i took. i guess ill have to talk to someone on the phone when i reorder tomorrow. the size i need is the one thats dirty in the pic.
Something I learned years ago when buying new parts for a Ford is to take the old part with you when buying parts or you will end up with the wrong part.
very true, but im trying to get them through rock auto since theyre way cheaper. the stores around here want anywhere from $30-50 for one wheel cylinder. ill send these pics to rock auto and see if they can help me with this extra info. if they cant i may have to pay the big price at a store.
Well according to that chart, all '72 6cyl except for the 250 with D70 size tires used the same cylinders... Assuming yours has 9" brakes, the 170/200 cylinder are apparently what you need..
ok i think i got the right part this time. the pic looked the same as the smaller part vs the pic from what i ordered last time. $10....
you can't go by pics when ordering car parts. most of the time they have a disclaimer..."pic doesn't represent the actual part".
Actually I believe Rockauto does try to show actual pict, often with multiple views... Picts of front end parts I bought for my Cobra Jet back in the winter were accurate...
