I know that there are threads out there about Doug thorley headers but they don't show any solutions that fix my issue. Is there anyone with this exact problem that has a solution with pictures. I have taken the car to many shops to get the exhaust done but everyone says they can't do it. I don't know much about exhaust but I thought a 90 degree bend to a 45 would be fine to get pipes to clear the pitman arm.
Unfortunately, the only solution is custom headers for a Maverick (expensive). It's sad that no one makes shorty headers that fit a Maverick/Comet really well. There are full-length headers that fit really well.
I think Krazy Comet (Tom) has worked through the Thorley issues on his car. You may try to message him.
I have the Doug Thorley shorties and I have NO issues. I have power steering, which I would think would have even less room.
http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/headman-shorty-v-thorley-shorty.96212/#post-1066482 Power steering car too. You can see the Pitman arm at full extension. Just heat and dimple the tube for clearance. I had to do more than Craig, but don't think it hurt the flow. Micah
Maybe it's because I have a manual transmission it looks like Criag has way more space in between the pitman arm and bell housing.
His apparently has a thinner flange(or larger opening?) that allows the pipe to swivel away from the pitman arm... Mine wound up similar to Micah's... If the left outlet had been better centered and extension possibly curved a bit these would be a breeze, as they are I'd never recommend a set to anyone...
I'm just going to remove the Doug thorleys and reinstall my long tube hooker headers. They are not ceramic but they will do for now until I get the ceramic version. Thanks to everyone
Spilled some oil on my headers after changing them out. Now car smokes when running how long until it stops?
