I have a question. I am running this same setup. I am using the 176/190 sensor and my temperature is always around 185-190 with the second speed running all the time. It gets annoying hearing the fan all the time in second speed. So Im wondering if Im better off running the 195-210 sensor or is that too high?
I would go to the higher temp sensor! I wud think fan running constantly wud pose undue load on electrical system, esp., if not running at least 100 amp alt. I run 180 stat; have a single speed fan w/ adj/temp controller -- have it set to come on about 200. Only time fan runs constantly is AC on.
Honestly I dont remember but I think its a 180 thermostat. And yes the fan is always running on the high speed, but temperature never goes past 190. So I was thinking the higher sensor would work better.
I have a 200 on-175 off and a 180 thermostat but my high speed is hooked to a toggle switch and low speed to a temp switch. Works good for my application but then I dont have A/C
I have the higher temp sensor and I believe a 195 thermostat. The high so far has never kicked on, but I do not yet have the AC hooked up. The temp stays around 195 - 200. I removed the drain cock in the radiator and with an adapter put the sensor there.
isn't that the cooled side of the rad? I would think if it gets to temp it would be way hot in the engine.
You are correct about that being the cooled side but with the right temp sensor I would think it would be just as effective, it would be a trial and error to get it to the temp desired for the fan to kick on. Probably better to just sense it at the t stat I just never thought about putting it there
I would have to agree. I believe that's why all manufactures state to install temp probes near top of the radiator and sensors somewhere in the T-stat housing/intake man. crossovers.
I have a 180 T-stat...fan low set at 185 high is set for 195... my temp runs at 178-188 depending if A/C is on. have never heard the high side come on... if you have a Taurus fan and low doesn't keep your temp below 190 you have a cooling system problem...
I still can't wrap my mind around the idea that on my LS 5.3 the cool side of the radiator returns through the T-stat. in the pic. the return hose is in the T-stat side of the waterpump. I have three temp sensors... 1- engine timing control box. 2- MSD EFI control box. 3- temp sensor for Dakota Digital temp gauge.
On my Chrysler V6 the thermostat is mounted in the left side of the cylinder block and is fed coolant from the cold side of the radiator.
Is it not the lower hose that the coolant is pulled from by the water pump and through the engine? Why else would it need a spring in the hose to keep it from collapsing. If so, then the upper hose would be the return to the radiator from the engine. If the radiator is split in the middle into hot and cool, then I would think the cool side would be where the water enters the engine from the lower hose. That would mean the drain cock is on the hot side. Are the factory ones divided like this, or does the hot enter from the top and cool as it flows down to the bottom? If it cools from top to bottom then the drain cock would be on the cool half. BTW, I rechecked my sensor and it is the lower temp one, and the engine stays around 200. This makes me think that at the drain cock where my sensor is installed is the cool side.
