My thinking is whenever you do something like this to your front suspension you should have it realigned. You could measure to the top of the fender opening before and after the engine swap to determine how much drop you achieved and then consult a shock/suspension company for their recommendations. Bruce
I have asked this before but what about the shocks? If I cut half a coil out after the engine swap will I have to get shocks made for lowered suspension or will the stock ones still work?
" I don’t know if afterwards that if the car will look funny sitting up too tall. " The '75 I have has larger tires front and rear (15" wheels with P215-75R15 tires). I actually like the taller stance. But then I occasionally drive country roads so ground clearance is an issue. I find the taller stance is easier to get into and I don't have to worry about exhaust dragging. I agree with other posters and get the mods in then see what the stance looks like for you and adjust from there.
After I swapped in the the aluminum intake & headed 306 and not reinstalled A/C my Comet stood on it's toes with orig springs... I wound up installing a set of TRW 8088 6cyl springs to get it down close to where I wanted it...
I have a 302 with iron heads, and swapped in the 8088 springs that Tom mentioned for some cut springs that my car came with. The front is right where I want it. I also dropped my upper control arm at the same time I swapped springs. I read at least 10 different threads on the Arning/Shelby drop, both here and elsewhere, and noted that people had differing results.....and there are two templates generally used to figure out where to drill the new holes. I didnt like the templates as in my mind they seemed to move the holes forward in relation to where they started, so I used a plumb bob to determine where to drill and a tape measure for the inch down. I have a '74, so there was an extra brace in the shock tower that had to be altered too. I like how my car drives.....but honestly, I never drove it (except to a gas station 1 mile away) before all the suspension changes and I can not vouch for what kind if difference it made. I think it handles as good or BETTER than the 69 Camaro I had for a daily driver in the early '80s.
I would consider bagging it if it didn’t effect the ride of the car. I am going to be drag racing with this car so I don’t want the suspension to be firm because I need the weight transfer and I still need leaf springs to put slapper bars on.
