I bought a new front sway bar from NPD but it's a lil bit wider than stock. Its for 67-70 mustangs which I thought was going to work but apparently its not the same. It looks like I could install it, but the end links might have too much angle. I can return it as long as I haven't installed it yet. Sooo.. My question is : should I return it and not bother makin it work? Or should I have gotten one for a '65-'66, is it a better fit? Looking for any suggestions, thanks
Funny you bring this up, I just asked Hellwig dimensions for their 65 Mustang bar (part # 6706), here is what they sent. For the 6706 37.75 center to center arms 9.50 I made a quick and dirty measurement of my bar and it is about 37" but it's tough to measure while on the car. They do show a different number for the 67 but I didn't ask for dimensions on that one. Here's a thread with some information on the subject. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/mustang-sway-bar-v-s-maverick-sway-bar.64809/
Yes, I have one. The following is a link to the correct Addco bar at Summit racing. Also includes a review from a Comet owner in Utah. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aco-835/overview/year/1970/make/ford/model/maverick
Yikes, 4 month wait?! I'm gonna bring this sway bar back, do lil research and see if I can use the '65 mustang bar, if not guess I'm waiting it out
I dunno anything about a bar for early Mustang but based on engine bay width, it should be closer than a '67 that could fit a big block...
Addco makes a GREAT sway bar .. but I had to wait 5 months for the one on my Maverick .. Make a world of difference in the handling . I have a front AND a rear addco bar and they work great . Don't know WHY it takes so long to do the Maverick/Comet bars.. I even went so far as to call their rep at their factory . Didn't make a bit of difference . Good Hunting !! Cometized (Chip)
Some 35 years ago when I went from 65 Mustang to 74 Comet, I tried to install a 65 Shelby Mustang sway bar, while it was the same eye to eye width, it hit the frame area as the bend was not quite correct. I then tired using a 67 Shelby sway bar, the bends where correct, but as you know, the eye to eye width was slightly wider. I then went ahead and fabricated new ends for the sway bar and all was fine. Do not know if you would want to go this route, but waiting for the Mav/Comet Addco would be the way to go, regardless do not use the 65/66 Mustang bar! I think one or two other members have said it worked for them, but from my experience, the 65/66 did not work for me......... blue sway bar is modified ended 67 Shelby 15/16" from sway bar, other is factory Mav/Comet. I think it is just supply/demand, obviously demand for Mav/Comet bars are low, so Addco takes their time manufacturing our bars, remember our "custom" 1 1/8 adjustable bars.........my Media page still has all the photos. David
I thought about modding the ends( or the linkage) something like those pics, it does have all the right bends, just a hair wide. I guess I'll just return it and play the waiting game. Sucks because NPD is a 10 min drive away its lot simpler to walk in and see parts in person. But still wrong parts happen. Oh well. Thanks for the help everybody!
I have put a 66 Mustang bar on a 75 Maverick. There were 2 problems I had with it. The first problem was that the Mustang bar needs to be mounted farther forward. I was able to slot the holes on the sway bar mount brackets and slot the holes on the sway bar bracket mount pads on the car. The second problem is the end links will not be perpendicular to the pavement since the Mustang bar is too wide. I thought about welding some plate on the lower control arm and relocating the end link lower mounts, but there is not much room to play with.
Jeg's suppose to have 9 via eBay in stock? https://www.ebay.com/itm/ADDCO-835-...ash=item5d33f1ad61:g:I8cAAOSwO7haDvUz&vxp=mtr David
Jeg's website shows a 4/18 ship date for these bars. I'd call before ordering on e-bay. http://www.jegs.com/i/ADDCO/020/835/10002/-1
