I'm looking for a ratchet awl spring for a 1975 maverick. Will a pawl spring from a 1970-71 comet work?
I take things apart to see what make them tick...or in this case what makes them "click". Here's the difference between 70 and 71 parking brake. 1st pic is 70, 2nd pic 71-up, 3rd pic has 70 on bottom
Jeff is the official go to guy for lots of things it blows my mind what this country boy knows, if you dont have his how to links bookmarked then you better do it. He is a great person to know and am proud to have met him and talked with him several times. http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick.html
No way to hook the spring in the housing and it will push the claw in the wrong direction if you did figure out how to install it. It would be easier to cut a slot in your housing and buy the early 70 pawl and spring from Melvin's...or buy a used parking brake assembly.
You will need to cut a funky looking hole in your bracket to use the new claw and spring. Or buy a used parking brake assembly to keep you from reinverting the wheel.
That might be an option. I have the parts on order. If I can modify the brake than I'll get one. If you have one for a 75?
