ok , first thanks for all of your time to post on this question....however with all the back and forth i am lost. i am using 14" wheels question: 1. is the wildwood kit the right one to use? 2. will i only be able to get rotors from them? 3. i did look at discswap site and they seemed expensive. if wildwood isn't the right one what is that is $700 or less...i prefer about $500. this is my first restore / major repairs thanks in advance for all of your help
On the wilwood site this is what comes up for mavericks https://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/B...odel=Maverick&option=Drum+Brake+Front+Spindle Yes their rotors are specific and have to be bought through them As for the discswap they have kits that are around $600 if you go with the 4 piston manual brakes. Other than that your best bet is to buy this kit https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-1971-...h=item2a5d2d4507:g:qL4AAOSwWfda~JrF:rk:1:pf:0 I have heard that it works ok. You can also look into the scare bird swap which is the cheapest I believe. https://scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=65 Enjoy....
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-1971-...h=item2a5d2d4507:g:qL4AAOSwWfda~JrF:rk:1f:0 I asked the seller what size rotors, they are 10" x 1" vented rotors, original front disc for our Mav/Comet where 11" You can always post in wanted section for OEM disc brake set up, or even just getting spindle for disc brakes, everything else is pretty well available at most auto parts stores, either new or rebuilt........ David
There is no difference in Maverick disc brakes from '74-'77. Calipers, spindles, and rotors are the same. Master cylinders were slightly different.
Did disc brakes become standard equipment later on the Comet? I have a 1975 Comet (06/75 build date) and it has drum brakes ??
No it should have had it. If it was an early car then it might be possible but mid year like that it should have them.
Yes, you can still find drums in '75 model year. Like I said - it is a Ford thing …… Getting back to the OP original topic, I did a little checking on parts for the Granada swap. CSRP sells just the spindles and new splash shields for around $300. I checked some of the auto parts suppliers (like Rockauto) and it looks like all the main parts needed for conversion can be bought for around $200 - which puts the swap with all new parts at around $500. Would still need to do something about a master cylinder. I have the Granada swap on one of my cars and it fits the factory steel 14" wheels fine. Wheel must have the bigger hub for the disc. I doubt a cast type wheel in 14" would fit, but the steel does if it has the bigger hub.
