Just look for the bigger sellers with excellent feedback. Since you will not be able to look up the right part by application (because it would point to a replacement dual diaphragm) - I would just look at your current one and match the linkage to one listed. I just did a search and MOTORCRAFT VACUUM ADVANCE returned 140 items for sale
Looks like I'll be shopping around for a while Would it be a good idea to just disconnect that hose and plug that port on the carb for now? It seems like if I don't, it'll just be sucking air through that busted advance when I open the throttle.
True and that leans mixture a bit. Problem with vacuum advance is it only functions at light throttle, once throttle plate is more than maybe a third opened, it's useless. Blocking vac adv, bumping timing up to 15* gives better throttle response. If you increase base timing more than around 15*, may have hot start issues.
Might be easiest to just drop in a different distributor. I bet some of the parts guys here on the forum have several of them. There are also NOS ones in ebay too.. If the diaphragm is cracked and leaking there is little you can do but replace it.
I've made a huge improvement as far as the whole car ever since I joined this forum, and I give you guys most of the credit for why this thing is a functional vehicle again.
