How is the water pump supposed to be belted to the crank pulley? Should I just get a belt and run it strait down to the crank pulley? It does seem like the pulleys line up. I tried two belts but one was to big and the other to small, so thought Id ask before I try a third belt. It just seems with that big "nose" on the water pump pulley its gonna be hard to get belt over the two pulleys that wont be to big. The truck had a P/S pump towards the drive side i took off. Am I supposed to be putting a adjustable 3rd pulley over there somewhere instead of just running a belt between pump pulley and crank?
I guess I need one of these ? https://www.cvfracing.com/ford-wate...2kLrfy6j7I-RuAw8pH6LU5VmmO4c3WPKMfu86KQA21s8c though I would like it in non shinny
On original setup P/S is adj point. Without P/S a different water pump pulley is used to move belt in line with alt.
I have a 3 point set-up, I kept throwing the alternator belt at high RPMs with a two point system. Also running two belt pulleys on the crank and water pump to allow me to add power steering back if I wish.
Rick's pulley appears to be original Ford, though not one used on Maverick. AFAIK 302 Mav/Comet pulleys were single belt only. Depth of pulley differs depending on whether car was optioned with/without P/S. Appears to be same pulley I used on my '69 Fairlane when I added P/S(sorry no number on it). For those, both P/S & alt belts pass over water pump pulley. 1971 & '72 Maverick 302 did use pulleys that originated on '69 Fairlane(note C9OZ pt numbers). Anyway researching Ford pulley applications will bring one to tears.
I am beginning to find that out. Hitting a lot of dead ends when it comes to finding a pulley. Only one I found that had any kind of info on it that was of use is the $80 polished one. From you chart i know i need W/O PS and W/O AC so i think C9OZ 5809-B now what good knowing that does me? LOL . I wish it told me how deep the bell housing nose was, thus how far back the groove went.
as a side note, here is a cool website that has list of ford part numbers for things like this...http://www.mustangtek.com/index.html I found the pulley on that site, but its informational only. No sales http://www.mustangtek.com/pulley/C90E-8509-E.html
Here is mine. And of course with a GM 100amp alternator. My waterpump pulley is a chrome aftermarket piece. I,ll have to do some thinking to remember where and when i got it. You,ll definitely need dual grove to make it work. I got gray hair getting mine to work so have patience.
None of those pulleys you,ve linked will work. Take a look at Hotrock's or mine. And i remember after getting dual pump pulley that damn stock crank pulley was too big and scraped. I ended up with small diameter crank pulley. Same as with Hotrocks. Take no offense Hotrock! You pulley config is same as mine.
According to my notes the water pump pulley is a C7OE - 8509 - D from a 1968 -69 302. I purchased it on E-Bay. The crank pulley is a March unit #MCH-1631.
