I have a 1970 Ford Maverick, some issues I am having are both headlights have gone out simultaneously ( I’ll be lookin into the fuse box first), and I don’t know if this is an issue or if it’s just a single barrel carb thing. Twice now (I’ve only driven it a total of 4 times for roughly 150mi) when at slow speeds (less than 20mph) or a stop if I try to “floor it” it just dies. It starts right back up though. I’m thinking it may be as easy as an Carb adjustment unless this is typical.
Your headlight - check those ground wire. Now might be a good time to pull lights out. Clean and lube connectors. Ohh and i got all my lights working just redoing PO shorty crimped splice
Welcome to the forum and working on old cars. Headlights may be the hi/low switch on the floorboard has gone bad try clicking it from hi to low. There are no fuses for the headlights, the headlight switch has a breaker in it that will heat up and kill the headlights if there is a problem with a short circuit or ? and requires the replacement of the switch. The headlight switch is prone to going bad also . The car may just need a tune up and timing set or carb rebuilt
If headlights both go out at once and then back on in ten seconds or so, it's probably the circuit breaker inside HL switch. Fuses have zero to do with headlights. Ground for R&L headlights should be separate. A stalling hesitation is usually a problem with pump circuit inside carb. With engine off, look down into carb, open throttle and look for a good squirt of gas. If weak or not there, and problem isn't linkage related(on carb), it'll probably require rebuilding.
I’ve actually been in debates with my father on putting in a 302 because as of right now it’s number matched. My argument is even number matched the car isn’t going to be worth enough to not have fun with it. Plus I already have the block and internals.
Cool !!!! Looks like he's hooked already...LOL!! Good job! If you dont upgrade motor he will. Give numbers matching motor to your father/his granddad as a fathers day gift.
Numbers matching doesn't really matter now as the car had a ruby red interior but now has black seats...so that ship has sailed.
Agreed. On a nice, original, LOW milage Maverick, matching numbers would be a plus. Still a majority would rather have a V8. I've been holding on to the original 302 out of my Comet, likely it's going away this fall. Gonna stick a 347 in the Fairlane, need storage space for it's original engine.
There are some special things that you have to do when putting a V8 in a 70 because they never had one, so just a heads up
I figured, Auto Krafters has a kit, and I’m sure there’s always going to be more. But that’s a while down the road. I’m not going to do it I’m until I can do a full paint job.
