got my new Strange master cylinder bench bled and installed today. being I have the wheels off for bleeding the brakes I decided it was time to cut the rear wheel studs off that were too long when I installed the 9". got one side cut and filed down only to find out they were still .25" still too long...:slap:
to work off some of the frustration I went out and mowed the yard...all is good.

Looking more like a pile of parts! I would be inclined to say it started life as a Comet and received a Maverick bumper and grill. I say that because of the Comet tail lights (less likely to change than a bumper) and hood but who knows, too many years have gone by since that was assembled.

Another closer look, is that a Comet grill? Man, as many times as I have looked at that in the past I never noticed how much of a Comet was used. Always saw a maverick sitting there but now I question which car they started with to build it!

That’s my thinking, Shelby parts does not a Shelby make!

:mischeif:Just think if you found one of the Shelby Comricks they swapped parts with to make those! Too bad there are no pictures of em. :stirthepot:

We can also include Shelby Europe and one so called Shelby Comet with GT40 components.

Interesting that both the Mexico and Europe examples are Comets rather than Mavericks.

As BBMS18 puts it, badging and some Shelby parts does not make a car a Shelby.

Looks like a Comet GT right down to the rocker panel molding, aluminum slot wheels, with a hood tach, louvers, Shelby type rear duck tail, front spoiler, Maverick badging, stripes, front bumper and possibly gas cap. If I had to venture a guess, probably a 302 4 speed. It may have made a big splash if it appeared at the show before the Comets were generally available in 71 as the hood and tail lights would have looked customized compared to the Maverick.

Met up with a local maverick guy today and traded some parts that he needed, In return I am getting a 75 parts car. Going to pick it up later this week. Also got some nice valve covers and a set of clutch pedals In the trade!

That Mexican Shelby, whether it was released or not, gets my vote for one of the most attractive cars of the 70's. And since I will never find one, I get a Comet......with Comet tail lights!!:bananaman::dancingpa:
