That's a very late VIN, likely built in last few days of '71 production.

    Yep late, late build.

Length of model year can vary from year to year but on average second/third week of July is the end. Late July thru mid Aug was usually change over time, with next year starting in late Aug. I suspect with Maverick, little down time was actually required. It's also possible Ford was delaying '72 introduction as prices would be higher, HP figures less and additional emissions equipment required.

I looked at a very early '69 Torino last night, date on data plate Aug 29 1968.

Paul, here is a vin # (2K91T106053) of a 72 Maverick that I had when I graduated high school. I sold it in 2001. Last known location was in Baron MN in 2010.

Would like to find it back again!

Hey guys I have a vin problem. The sequential numbers at end should only be 1 of 1 correct? Meaning not matter what assembly plant there should not be 2 cars with last 6 digits? I ask because I have a 75 maverick with a title issue.
Vin on door and dash of my car 5 X 92L251975
Vin on my title is 5 K 92L251975
Is there another way to verify assembly plant?

IMHO, the DMV screwed up your title somewhere along the line.

Agreed. It should start 5X, not 5K.....
The sticker on door also has vin and other info.
Says Made in Canada, but I'm not sure, does that mean the car, or the sticker?? Anyone have a picture of door data tag with made in USA?

Does anyone know if mavericks were built in kansas city kansas?? I don't think so. Ford built other vehicles there but that's what my title says. Probably a typo when title was printed, but now it's my headache. Haha
