The round blue & cream color rectangular containers are charcoal canisters, fuel tank vents into these, have zero to do with A/C function. The round, black "can" under blue tank is the A/C vacuum reserve.
There is a flexible hose that attaches to fitting and goes to side of air cleaner housing........ David
If your air cleaner assembly still has the fitting for attaching the flexible hose to fitting on charcoal filter unit, you can probably use any tubing (rubber or vinyl) so long as ID is correct, it is not under any pressure, so should be fine. Picture is from my 302 air cleaner, but you can see the black fitting where the flexible hose attaches........ David
The AC should switch to coming out the DEFROST when accelerating. Very common and NOT an issue. Just the way it is. All my Maverick AC cars do this.
I would like to thank everyone for their input. I flushed the radiator three times, last time I left the cleaner and distilled water in for a week and drove it back and forth to work every day. Heater on in the morning (with windows down) and A/C on in the afternoon. After 5 days I drained it refilled with antifreeze and have not had any issues.
Glad to hear... I doubt they were that way from new(time to break out the shop manual), I don't remember my '75 Granada having that issue. Easy enough to install a one way vacuum valve, if it still switches, there's a leak(yeah, probably in selector).
It may be very common, but it should NOT happen. This indicates a manifold vacuum loss under load, which in itself is normal, but the system was designed to utilize a vacuum reserve to hold constant vacuum to accessories when under load. Its a simple system, but requires functioning one-way check valves, a reservoir that doesn't leak, and vacuum hoses and pots that also don't leak. If any one (or more) of those parts is not 100% vacuum tight, the vent switching symptoms will happen.
I am speaking about heavy, extended acceleration. Eventually....those little "cans" run out of vacuum.

Should be fixed for proper function as-designed. The system was not designed to behave this way, nor should it.
