Hi guys: The 1970 Maverick I am picking up has the door "data tag" nicely weathered, obliterating some of the info. Being a Canadian model, I was able to locate the other STAMPED tag (sorry, can't remember the technical name for this) near the radiator, and it has the following on it: 0143 22 13A T292722 62A 45 UP INTER LO 1 CORAL A BLK It's obvious what the color, interior, VIN, and body style are (and I know it's a 200 I6, automatic, 3.53 rear end) but the BOLD info as above, I can't easily correlate to anything. Anyone willing/capable of helping here? Thanks! Chris
0143 is the rotation number (do a search to find out what that means) 13A is the build date. January 13, 1970
I doubt it is a 3.53 rear end. as far as i know Mavericks only came with either a 2.79 or a 3.00 rear. i Never heard of any with a 3.53 rear.

Don is correct no 3.53 ratio. In 1970 the car would have had a 7.5 inch rear. There were 3 ratios 2.83 3.08 3.20

Also, what is the literal translation of "DSO"? Mine ends up being "Charlotte", which of course is North Carolina. Wow, a Canadian car, built in 1970, going first to Charlotte, then...?????....and ending up in Texas. It's a lot of fun understanding the history behind these cars. Chris
The DSO code, consisting of two numbers, designates the district in which the car was ordered.Ford of Canada DSO codes consist of a letter and a number.
Hi Dave: My VIN and buck tag indicates that the car was built in St. Thomas, and the door data clearly reads "built in Canada". If this is the case, why/how would my DSO be 22? Also, I'm not sure I understand your comment "district in which the car was ordered". Can you elaborate? Sorry, I'm just not familiar with the manufacturing methods/procedures of automobiles. Chris
Mavericks were built in Canada but the ones built here were not just for Canada. 80% or so of production at St.Thomas has always been for export (to the USA and other countries) In the 70's there were more than 41 different DSO's for the USA (Boston, Buffalo, New York, Pittsburgh, etc.....), Ford would keep records of whats cars were going to what DSO's then they could see what was selling and where and for warranty. The cars were owned by the Motor Company (FORD) until sold at the dealership alot of the times.

This is an old thread but pertains to me. I have a 75 maverick. Title indicates it was built in Kansas I think, vin starts 5K on title. But on the car, it clearly says 5X, indicating that it was built in Canada. Tag on door says Made in Canada. Does that mean the tag was made in Canada, or the car?? Dumb question I know but at this point I'm trying to cover all angles as I need to go to dmv to deal with this mess.
Someone, sometime in the life of the car, accidently titled it with the K instead of an X. Probably just a mis-read by someone reading a hand written title application. The fact that Mavericks used both the K and the X is just a happy coincidence. If every VIN on the car matches, and indicates that it is the correct VIN with the X - yes, it is a St Thomas, Canadian built car. You could call your states DMV and ask how they handle a digit error like this.
yes, check with the DMV. I bought a car once in Ind. and the title had a 7 in the vin number and the car had a T in all it's numbers. they wouldn't title it for me. I sold the car as a no title car for way less than I paid for it. I told the Guy why it had no title and he wanted the paperwork I had with the car anyway. about a week later he drove the car over to my house with a tag and registration on the car. he said all he did was change the 7 to a T. I had thought about doing that but I probably would have gotten 30 days in the electric chair...
