IIRC, I believe I used a short 4 gauge starter cable from the alternator to the hot side of the solenoid.
jason im reading alot of info now of people who use the 3g with a v-belt have slippage issues? to solve it they say to use a double v-belt or go serpentine .what set-up do u have
I've had my one wire single V-belt since March 2010 only time I may have had slippage is when starting cold/fast idle and not sure slippage is alt., could be power steer pump. Anyway, it's only momentarily. I run AC, elec fan & sub amp have not experience any problem issues w/ my setup. I,m using aftermarket small frame 130amp. Lot's of old cars running single belt units.
I read the same thing before doing the conversion. What I did was use the larger 289 HIPO/Boss 302 single groove alternator pulley. It is a larger diameter and has a deeper groove. Have never had a problem with it slipping or charging. All the accessories are the original single v-belt drive, I personally do not like serpentine belt systems in older vehicles.
jason where did you purchase the hi-po pulley? if i have any issues i might try it. i agree with you on serpentine belts in older cars
I did this conversion a few years back but the pulleys are reproductions. I believe the part number is C5AZ 10344 H. The casting on the part is C5AF 10A352 H. I do not remember exactly where I got it from, probably Summit or ebay.
