A 7" wheel with the 245's is pushing it. The tires have a 9.6 section width, and any time you cram a tire on a rim too narrow you end up with them wearing funny, like the inside or outside edge wearing, or both, or the center wearing out before the sides. I know alignment has alot to with this, but I plan on doing an alignment on my car myself after I put the springs and other components in the front (perks of working at an alignment shop;)). The factory Mustang wheels were 17x8 and the tires fit perfectly on those wheels, I just wanted to make sure that there is room for 4.5 bs.

You can put a 245/60 on a 7-inch rim, but it's too narrow for a 245/45. There's not enough sidewall.

My mistake I failed to see the 245/45 and was thinking 245/60

Backspace and offset are related. If you Google "backspace vs offset" you ought to get a definitive answer. (corrected answer) ....I had a minute and got the actual number ..... ZERO for 4.5 backspace on an 8 inch rim. Backspacing includes the outer rim, and offset is measured off of the tire bead surfaces inside the rim.

Where these cars are tightest is the rear brake face to the leaf spring. The rear axle is very narrow and yet there is a good amount of room outboard. I have 265s on the back of my Comet.

Don't try that on the front .... lol.

I really like the 3.7 engine swap idea. Thought about it myself. I have one of these in my Lincoln MKX and it runs out well. Love the exhaust note, too, quiet, until you get it on. Then it sounds great. 300 horse in a light car ought to be great.
Hoping it fits easy for you. Oil pans are usually the biggest problem going new engine/old Ford.

I seen a 61 falcon and a 69 Torino swap I never heard any issues about the oil pans the only thing that concerned me on the Torino was the engine so far back that the motor mounts were around a foot behind where the original motor mounts were but my thought that it was just because the Torino is such a big car time will tell I'm rounding up the parts as we speak I may build it on YouTube and have a thread on here
