Why not?????? Wanna list the differences that'd affect a swap of 289 vs 302? Possible bellhousing bolt pattern difference, timing marks/pointer on opposite side of engine, water pump inlet also on opposite side. A '68/'69 302, has the timing mark & water pump inlet issue.

Here's most of the info using 302 from '70 up.

Don't get me wrong, the 289 is fine, but the 302 will do.

Ahhhh Blue Print Engines, I have one of these setting in my garage...

I bought mine from a friend that pulled it out of a Mustang he is restoring for SCCA racing, big engine not allowed. Minus oil pan & carb, otherwise it's complete with balancer, has approx 2000 miles... No it doesn't have the ugly ass GM dist, has one similar to Ford.

I running a Blueprint Engines engine too. I bought my 347 long block direct from them because the machine shops in my hometown that I had used in the past seemed to have disappeared. Blueprint installed a front sump oil pan (in place of the dual sump the engine came with) and swapped to an early style timing chain cover for no extra charge. It runs fantastic with loads of torque.

The 289 was a fine engine. It did it's job back in the day. The 302 is a more modern engine and would be the one I would choose after the 351.

Just get the 6 cyl running first, and then ascertain what else the car needs before you start throwing things at it. :D
