    wow, I didn't expect all that in there. Pretty complex system. My box is still in place but didn't dare open it up, the system was bypassed by the previous owner and all works fine now so I don't want to disturb it in any way. Thanks for that photo.

    The IC is probably a gate device, I didn't find it in my replacement guides. The eight 1000 ohm resistors(brown, black, red) act as buffers for input. IC opens or closes relay, dependant on information from seat and/or seat belt sensors. The rectifiers, transistors & capacitors(lower right) likely form a voltage regulation circuit so IC is receiving a constant voltage.

    Not as simple as I'd have guessed but far from anything just a few years later.

    Crazy Comet you continue to make my point; that is not one of Jeff's more famous quotes however it is just part of your repertoire!

    TV repairmen ... I remember them. The main reason why we only had a black and white TV all the way until 1976. Ugh. LOL.

    Wondering what exactly was "inside the yellow box"? I was afraid to look at the picture of one popped open. I was expecting to see a swirling vortex composed of pure evil ... LOL. Definitely nothing of this world ...

    At the risk of exhuming an old thread, here goes. When i bought my '74, the bypass button was still there, but the wires had been diked and twisted together. Years later, when I installed my new motor,I decided to clean up the mess and wrap and tie things properly. In contrast to the aforemented post on how to delete the seat belt box and button, I for looked the wires discussed in the post. I found the following wires breaking out of the main harness that went to the old button:

    * 2ea red with a blue stripe
    * 1 ea white, no stripes
    * 1 ea red with no stripe

    That makes 4, not 5 five wires. Unless there were different harness configurations, I'm missing the second white wire. I untaped the harness where it continues to the solenoid and the alternator, but no plain white wire. There are two white wires, one with a black stripe and one with a green stripe. Where is the elusive second white wire referenced in the post?

    Mine seems to have all the wires still in place to the box and the switch but it is still bypassed somehow. Maybe a dealer did it at some point (I read that after realizing all the problems dealers were allowed to do that). Even though it is bypassed I think it would be neat if just the Seat Belt warning light & buzzer would come on until it's latched, just for a more original feel, but I'm not going to mess with it.
