Has anyone installed the vintage air AC system? currently looking at the magnum IV. Was anyone able to retain the stock controls, if not where did you place the controls? Any photos of installation or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
You should be having this conversation in February. Mega hot now, by the time you get it installed, it will be nice weather here again. Says the guy who runs the air in the car with the windows vented in "nice weather".
I was considering the early Mustang kit because I figured I could adapt it. Only problem is those use three levers instead of two. I plan to reach out to them when I get closer to pulling the trigger and see what option there might be.
I used 69-70 Mustang Classic auto air kit. I am using the factory controls, although the DEF, and HEAT positions are inverted. Iirc, had to use non-ac control instead of the ac one.
Nick Dominick has an aftermarket AC system and he figured out how to install it and modify it to work off of the Maverick factory controls. I know he does not get on this board anymore.
We installed 6 vin 11 s all using the Vin control panels with their knobs. We smoothed off the original control knobs and installed the control panel in the center of the dash . Neat look lots of room . Cometized Chip
I used some sheet aluminum to mount the new controls to the factory controls, and yes I used the heater only controls.
Thanks! I’ll have to look into that. Your photos are very helpful. Looks like you had to trim the upper brace as well. Did you connect the defrost tube to the stock location?
Yes I did trim the upper brace because I did not pay enough attention to the clearance when I made the small bracket from the aluminum sheet. There are adapters that connect from the main unit to the factory vents.
That is very helpful thank you! Do you have any photos of how you mounted the box in the car? Did you go with the magnum series?
There is also a bracket on the back of the unit with a stud that fits through to the firewall. IIRC this was called a direct fit kit for a 69-70 Mustang.
Is this the kit you used? https://www.jegs.com/i/Vintage Air/...5lo3XhaFlL46H-HPtqzof3JdWwcgn0LMaAi-vEALw_wcB i am going to go through a local dealer
No it was from Classic Auto Air. They are fairly local to me. To use the factory controls they have something called EZ Cable Integrator. https://www.classicautoair.com/shop/complete-ac-systems/1970-ford-mustang-air-conditioning-system/ Manual is here: https://www.classicautoair.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/1-2027FA-INSTALL-INSTRUCTIONS-03-03-21.pdf
Does that kit come with the adaptors for the vents? The only extra part out side of the kit I would need to add on would be the ez cable integrator then? Thanks so much for all the info. You are a big help!
