when I was taking my mower deck apart one of the gibbs/sliders came out of one side of my lift. as I was reassembling it another one fell out... finished the deck and then took a look to see how to reinstall them. they weren't worn as expected, looked like new, they just fell out. got a flashlight and located where one of them came from. took my floor jack and a block of wood and jacked the lift arm up to take the pressure off, it was simple enough to reinstall it. now the strange part... as a lot of you know I have a Ghost. after replacing the first gibb/slider there wasn't another one missing, I even checked the other leg and all of them were there... when I bought the lift it was a refurbished commercial lift. Harold seems to think an extra gibb/slider must have been stuck in the lift upon being rebuilt and just fell out later...18 years later. another strange note... I called the company I bought the lift from and the Lady said she would get me an est. on parts and labor to come and replace it... (Atlanta, Ga.) that was last Tuesday, I've tried to call and or text the company to tell them I no longer need the service call and haven't heard a thing from them and no answer to my calls...
greased up all the slides and lubed the chains... I'll get the mav back on it tomorrow and see how it works.
I'm from poor side of town, can't afford such luxuries... We used to have a occasional banging on walls(as did another neighbor), then the kid from a house over moved away... Guess ghost moved with him.. My finicky fluorescent lights, proved out to be flaky ballast(s), converted to LED, problem solved.
being we are on lifts... went down to Harold's shop this morning. while there we heard a loud bam and this is what made it. the kid changing the oil had removed the oil filter and had just walked out from under the truck to get the new one off his tool box... chain broke at bottom of left rear leg. last time it blew a lifting cylinder and one side dropped dumping a Mustang off on it's side.
I have posted this before but here it is again. this is what I saw one night as I was quitting for the day. I had been installing driveshaft and E-brake cables...
Ghosts...Gremlins...Willa the wisp...Ghost in the machine...Their real, any one who says they aint. Hasen't encountered one yet... PS: Time for a new lift Harold...That ones gonna kill someone...
These cars are very nose heavy. Light car with a V8. The balance point is at about the rear side of the front fenders. In the junkyards here, frequently they will place one stand on each side and a third under the middle of the back of the car, usually bending an otherwise-good rear valance pan. In harvesting the pan, I will unscrew it first. Then do a lift on the back bumper that I will estimate at just 75 to 100 lbs and I can pick the back end of the car up and retrieve the pan. I did the same thing with jack stands. Placed two jack stands in the front behind the front wheel wells and one side of the rear. In order to place the last jack stand, I just grabbed the rear wheel well with one hand, lifted the car that last inch and placed the last jack stand with my other hand. It was too easy. There probably was very little weight on that lift arm. Maybe wrenching on the front was enough to move the car up and it was able to swing out of the way.
after servicing lift and lawn mower it was time to empty my oil drain tank. took 11 gallons of oil to O'Reilly's for recycling. still have about 5 gals still in my oil change tank, it holds 15 gals.
