I've been watching some Power Tour videos by people I subscribe to on YouTube, and I've seen quite a few Mavericks. I think that's pretty cool...
I did three day segments of 1999, 2000, and 2001 in my Comet and still have the stickers on the windshield. Just doing three days at a time felt exhausting. Couldn't imagine doing the whole tour. It was a blast each time. I got some time to talk with Gray Baskerville and get his autograph, probably a year or so before he passed away. It was pretty special to talk with him, it was easy to feel connected to him and his writing, a lot like Frieberger now. We had the Hot Rod staff sign an 8x10 picture my wife took on the previous year's tour. The semi with the Hot Rod logo is the background with a nice car rolling past it. A highlight for me was going to the Garlits Drag Racing Museum in Ocala, FL and having Big Daddy himself on the driveway, urging us all to do burnouts as we leave. LOL.
