Yeah, I have a slave to the mechanical throw out bearing.

My friend couldn't fit a mechanical fork on his Mustang, the headers are in the way. We looked up the numbers on the headers and they are Super Comps from Hooker for a Maverick. LOL

Wow that's funny. Just thinking about headers today as I put mine in yesterday fully expecting issues after reading about hookers in a mav. I've run them before with no problems but Hedman 88300 both sides went in with the motor fully bolted down. Putting the drivers side bolts in was a treat. My last car had a 408 with shock tower shave and crites headers , it was no fun either.

I've got a 4 speed toploader in my Comet and ran across the Malwood units. The internal throw out bearing is kinda scary to me and I was considering an external but it's hard to find one that mounts to a toploader. What kind of external slave did you use? I assume it has to be the same bore size?

And no the bore doesn't have to be the same size.

Nothing wrong with going Internal Throw Out, other members including myself have used Modern Drive Lines Tilton 6000 series unit, which eliminates the linkage, fork, no more issues with Header clearance and nice clean look! You may want to compare which unit to go with, either Malwood ($1015) or MDL ($770) set up.

I contacted MDL and they said they didn’t have anything for a toploader. I know I can order probably any slave (push type) but will have to make a bracket to mount on the bellhousing

Nice parts but no instructions included. You'd think for a $1000 they could afford to send along two pieces of paper... MalWood clutch pedal.jpg

I agree. I sure would appreciate you keeping me informed on how it goes. It seems the throw out bearing kit came with shims on the website? One of my fears is does it need adjustment for proper function?

Yeah, came with a bunch of shims, I didn't show all the hardware. That dimension is gonna change between different depth bellhousings and pressure plates.

Some Hydraulic T/O's use shims (RAM), others like Tilton threaded collar (much easier to set up), basically the T/O is adjusted so no play between the Pressure Plate fingers/face of bearing. This can be set up measuring the face of the fingers to mounting face of bellhousing/transmission, then measuring the face of T/O on the Input Shaft Neck to face of transmission, the difference is then applied to the T/O adjustment, by adding shims or by threaded collar. For the M/C you want to have your Clutch Pedal stop just before plunger bottoms out, MDL mentions 1.35 to 1.4" travel, either fabricating some sort of "stop" on the floor or firewall.....the one I fabricated will be installed in place of one of the nuts that secure the reinforcement plate/collar for M/C, it is adjustable and will use Clutch Pedal arm as stop.
Definitely strange how no instructions at all, I think MDL has downloadable instructions, pretty well same for all Hydraulic T/O's......

The bearing is in constant contact with the pressure plate fingers?

Others that have installed these talk about having a specific gap , but no one says what that measurement is. Anywho, I have an email in to MalWood.
