I was gonna say what Craig said but he beat me to it. Man that's a gorgeous shade of blue. Has a good stance too. Really nice car. I have 255/45-17s on the rear of my Maverick, but the rear-end is wider (from a Granada) and the wheels have a 4-3/4" back-spacing...
Thanks! still have no clue why people do those nostrils black all the time. The hood looks longer with everything the same color. The more I look at it the more I like it. I'd love to have a custom set of wheels some day so I could really maximize the rear tires!
Lots of those Brazilian cars are rally cool but some of the things they do are a bit odd to me. They are certainly into the Mavericks though!
One more piece of the replacement part puzzle is the steering wheel. I've hated the Grant wheel since I first saw it. Never could find anything I like that wasn't stupid money. Found this MPI wheel on clearance at the pro-touring store. Much better!
On to the next weird issue with this car. The brakes have never seemed right. It stops but not like it should. Figured out that it has a 1 1/8" bore master on it. Called Wilwood and went over the brake components on the car. RRS stage 2 discs on the front with Wilwood Forged Dynapro discs on the rear. They suggested a 7/8" bore to match up with what I have. Still has the stock 5:1 pedal in it. Changed that out today. Bought and adjustable pushrod kit. Had to cut 2" total off the rods and thread the rod in the master 1 1/4" more to get it dialed in. Took way too long to get the master bench bled but finally got everything swapped over. What an amazing difference. Nice to have brakes that work as they should now!
More mods going on to solv4e a few nagging issues. Have not been able to use the A/C for a couple of reasons. There a leak in a hose under the dash that has proven to be almost impossible to get to. The car has Gen IV Vintage heat and air. The car doesn't overheat but runs warmer than Id like in traffic without running the A/C so we needed to amke some changes. Decided to go with the Wizard Cooling radiator, shroud and brushless fan setup. Unfortunately it's 6 1/2" thick so no change of it going in the car with the current front drive so we're switching the the Vintage Air Front runner. Very cool design. All the accessories bolt to a huge aluminum back plate that replaces the timing cover on the SBF. Here's the Wizard Cooling setup. And the whole Vintage Air kit. Here's that back plate. It weighs 14.2 lbs! The VA kit uses a mid 90's Explorer water pump. That and the back plate are how they are able to make a accessory drive that only protrudes 6.8" from the front face of the block. Just enough room for the radiator setup. Mounted. Couple of notable deals. VA has stainless lines that attach to the compressor and send the A/C lines out the right side of the engine under the alternator. They also send the heater hose from the water pump out that same spot so all those hoses are barely seen. Really cleans up the engine compartment! We're also using the Gates heat shrink hose clamps to further clean up the look. I cut an oval hole and used door edge guard to cover the edges to get the hoses thru the inner fender. The car already the drier and hoses under the fender so just had to get different hoses made with ports in the hoses for the new configuration. We're an A/C charge away from putting it back together. Replaced the A/C hose under the dash to hopefully solve the A/C leak.
Thanks! The Vintage Air front drive is incredibly well thought out. Sending the A/C lines and the heater hose out under the alternator is a game changer for under the hood.
Finished up a few days ago. Mission accomplished on the cooling. Running the A/C in bumper to bumper traffic it never got over 189°.
