Hey all, I'm encountering something pretty strange, I went to put Granada spindles on my 70 maverick, however the lower ball joint is completely wrong. the new spindle bottoms out before any of the taper engages. Is this a known thing or is this unusual? And how should I correct it? I already plan to replace both upper and lower ball joints since they're all shot, but now I'm not sure what parts to order? I know they make ball joint spacer sleeves should I use those or buy factory maverick stuff from a different year? Or even Granada ball joints? Thank you and sorry for the questions.

Replace complete control arm assemblies. Replacement fits everything 170 Mav thru late 70s Granada. Ones I used had larger/longer studs, had to use washer under nuts to maintain correct height for nuts. This was 10 years ago.

I've read the Versailles spindles had larger ball joint. Maybe those aren't granada spindles

That's possible, this is my first Ford so I'm not used to all their quirks.

That's really good to know, I'm gonna compare the ball joint tapers online if I can tonight.

Yeah, they don't show them on their web site, you gotta call or email them. I only know about them because a few years ago I installed one of their mini subframe kits and ran into the same problem. They offered me the tapered sleeves for $6, they might cost a little more by now. They were slow getting back to me about my problem so in the mean time I had installed ball joints with larger studs. There's charts online for Moog ball joints that give detailed dimensions, if you wanted to go that route.
I would be contacting the place that sold you the knuckles.

The sleeves that Mustang Steve sells are for each!!!

National Parts Depot at least sells them in a pair........
If you are going to replace all the Ball Joints anyways, as Krazy Comet (Tom) mentions, you might as well just put the money towards correct lower control arms/ball joint with the proper size tapered stud. For the cost of 2 tapered sleeve adapters, you can purchase 2 new lower control arm/ball joint assemblies..........
