$22,000 v6 with 17k miles on it. Leather seats, 6 CD changer, etc. It was a "project car" which I guess means it was a rental.

Are there any issues with this model that we should know about?

    Is this a decent price?

Anything else I should know before I slap down the cash?

if you are going to buy a mustang, get a 5.0L... why waste your money on a 6.. seriously

there not 5.0 no more 4.6

BUT i have to say the little 4.0 V6 does do OK for a 6 even better with a 5 spd

Price seams kinda high for a used car , i mean they sell new for 25 ish area , but if its a real clean car sure

6 cyl have 7.5 rear YUP 7.5 they are still makin them
    the v8 has the 8.8

    But they are good cars(y)

With the demand for them, both used and new, be prepared to pay nearly the same price for either one. I'd definetly get the V8 (4.6L 3 valve V8...300 HP IIRC). The V6 and V8 models get the same fuel mileage. Why get a 6 when the V8 does exactly the same thing and has more power? I will say, though, that the 4.0L SOHC V6 runs good for a 6 cyl. Mustang. Even better with a 5 speed. But the 4.6 is my choice hands down.

That said, I'd rather have a FOX mustang, '84-'86 hatchback or Coupe either one over a '05-later Mustang. I'd even take a 2.3L powered car off of someone's hands if the price is right.

We need something newer. This is replacing her daily driver (which ends up in the shop 2 months a year) so she wants pretty new, and convertible. Gotta enjoy it if we are paying good money for it...

I agree, we are now leaning more toward a V8

My wife drives an '05 V6 convertible and she loves it. The V6 has as much hp as the old 302s, and is cheaper to insure. It's got plenty of power for a daily driver, just put gas in it and drive. We've had zero problems with it after 30k miles. Highly recommended.

    Issues...

    1) If I get shipped off to Alaska next year, we will need to sell it and the better resale of the V8 will come in handy. Also, after driving a supercharged pontiac for a couple years, she is a little spoiled about being fast, yet she thought the V6 wasn't too bad.

    2) the more we look around, the cheaper we are finding these cars, in the 17-19K range. So the 22K is starting to sound a bit high.

    3) when I crater this engine in 8-10 years, it would be nice to drop in a carbed crate stroker motor and keep right on going:D

But, the lower insurance cost is a plus...

It is good to hear that there aren't a lot of "issues" with these cars, like consistently bad engineering issues or parts that wear out soon.

personally, just my way of thinking, but i'd wait until i was sure what was happening to the alaska thing. start putting money away and make a bigger down payment if you do not go north. no sense in losing money.:)

The bonneville has been wet over all the electrical stuff...battery, relays, all the connectors to the seats are rusted. I don't think it will make it for a year.

I HAVE to get out of this car before it rusts to pieces on us, and all the electronics start to rust out and quit working.

Scott; I have a V6 2006 Mustang, with a 5spd, and I love it. Never had a problem, and get about 30mpg on the highway. Good buy!

That's correct. The last year for the 5.0 was 1995.

We looked again today, and found new ones for 22k without convertible, and a little more with it. She really likes it.

I am mostly worried with convertibles leaking, or the top dry-rotting over time. How long do the tops last before you have to swap them?

You can get a brand new '07 V6 car with plenty of options for 22K. GT cars are going to run you anywhere from $26K up to $30K. Trust me....I'm shopping for one right now. Don't go to Lone Star Ford. Buncha' crooked bastards.
