Shadow, have you been up to Hempstead (lawrence marshall)? They usually have very low no-haggle prices. Not sure if they sell fords, but I got a very good deal on my Dodge truck. I got it fully loaded, with free upgraded leather seats and "nerf" bars (under the door step-up bars) and a HEMI for the price of a "decent" non-Hemi moderately equipped model from Houston. Lower taxes too, if I am not mistaken.

We looked at more Mustangs today, and I agree. 22k will get us a new car. A little more for convertible, and quite a bit more for GT.

Anna is currently evaluating if she will use the convert-down enough to justify the added price (her hair blows in her face when the top is down:rolleyes: )

Personally, I would rather have her get a hard top...no leaks, no dry-rotted tops, and safer in a rollover/crash.

    Good point...

Our conversation is generally "Are you going to unlatch and draw back the top to drive to Kroger (about a mile)?" "Yes, if the weather is nice."

"And for your drive to school (2 miles max)?" "Yes, if the weather is nice."

"When we test drove it, I didn't get a mile down the road and you wanted me to pull over and put it back up!" "My hair was blowing in my face!"

"What is going to keep your hair out of your face when you own it?" "I will have to do something with my hair, I guess..."

"If you want a convertible, I will get you one, you deserve it, but will you actually use it enough to justify the added costs, less safety, and extra parts to break and wear out (that I will have to pay for and likely repair)?"

etc. etc. etc. Still discussing it on an hourly basis...

I know what is going to happen...she is going to get the convertible, and like any other kid with a toy, she will use it 5-6 times early on, and maybe once a year afterwards...

I guess if she wants it, she can have it.

If Mama ain't happy...........ain't nobody happy.

Hempstead.....been there, done that. They don't like trade-ins. Said they would give me $1500 for my '98 GT. I asked the guy why he didn't just kick me in the nuts and slap my dog at the same time. (Carmax wrote me up for $2900)

I'm working with Reliance Ford in LaPorte right now. Dad bought his new truck over there in December and was very pleased with the way they worked for him. All I want is a damn black GT with an automatic. Seems like that is not the "hot ticket" for these greedy dealers.

My maverick was originally purchased at LaPorte Ford in 1973...wonder if it is the same place, right on Hwy 146?

    Small world...

Today, she had time to "ponder" and is thinking about broadening her search for new cars to include hardtops, and even non-Mustang cars. She really likes the Mustang convert, but is getting more "thrifty" and expanding to Hondas, Toyotas, etc. (Don't hate her because she likes Japanese cars, she has just had much better luck with them, and after this Pontiac debacle which continues as we speak, she is leaning toward rice burners even more...)

I got my wife a new '05 GT automatic in Feb. '05. She loves it (so do I), and after I added a cold-air intake and reprogrammed the computer, it picked up 2 mpg hwy and it ran 13.62 at the dragstrip. As mentioned by several others, resale on a V6 is way below V8's.

    Missing my old '70 Maverick
I had a '90 Mustang Vert 5.0. It turned out to be a great weekend car, but I'll never own another convertible for use as a daily driver.

    Reasons:

    1) Noisy. Wind, road noise, etc.
    2) Leaks. Maybe not when new - but eventually.
    3) Can't run them through high-pressure car washes (see 2).
    4) Cannot get a good stereo sound (because the top lowers down where the 6 X 9's should be). They might've done something to correct this, but I'd venture to say the sound system will suffer (compared to a hard top)). Also, the sound escapes through the top.
    5) Driving in the hot Summer: I'd have my A/C on HIGH with the top down in this Houston heat. A lot of times, I'd eventually pull over, put the top back up just to be comfortable.
    6) Driving in the cold Winter: It seemed to take forever to get warm in that thing! Brrrrr (I hate being cold).
    7) Poor Handling (body roll). Because there's no support from the roof, the underside has to be beefed up to compensate for it. It's still wasn't enough. The car had horrible body roll. However, you can spend some bucks to get it to corner.
    8) Convertibles are heavier than hard tops (see 7) and do not get as good of gas mileage (as a hard top). They get even heavier when you finally put SFC's to help stop the twisting of the uni-body.
    9) Convertibles are slower than hard-tops (again, the weight thing).
    10) Constant wind swirling around your head is NOT fun after a while - especially for the fems with hair (as Anna's already attested to).

After just a little while, the "Cool Factor" wore off pretty quickly.

This is my :2cents:, okay maybe a little more than that, but thought I'd my experience with a vert.

    Good luck either way.

    Rick...

Exactly what I have been hinting at, and Anna has been figuring out with her time "pondering".

It looks like a non-convertible model will be chosen in the near future...but most likely of Japanese making...(Toyota, Honda, or Mazda, even though I hate Mazdas!)

Again, make HER happy...for the short term...then tell her "I told you so!":D

Well, it may, or may not be an import...Currently, the only brochures sitting on our bar is for the Ford Mustang. She wants to cruise around Houston this weekend and see what is out there, broaden her options a bit...
