Check this out. First time I have found an old fastback Mustang in the junkyard. The car is definately NOT restoreable. It's way too far gone. It appears to have '71 302/C4 in it but was obviously a floor shift manual car at one point in time. What's up with the tail lights and "elite" trim on the tail panel? Never seen nothing like that...

When I got there, there was a few guys standing around it talking about what shame it was.

Jamie, "Elite" was used on the last Torinos. It started out as a luxury package simular to a LDO on the Maverick, and the last couple of years, Ford dropped the Torino name and just called the car Elite. Somebody thought it looked custom on that Stang, too bad they let it rust away...

Also, anyone know what rearend this is? Looks like an 8 inch to me? If it's a 9 inch, I'm going back for it, since '66 Mustang 9 inch rears are supposedly a Maverick bolt in. The rearend is really not as rusty as the pics make it look. My crappy cell phone makes rusty stuff look like that.

Also found this '56 Buick Delta 88. thought it was pretty cool. It was a very solid car. Too bad it's heading for the crusher.

That old stang sure would make a good yard ornament

Ohh yea, found this '72 Maverick also. I have heard of Mavericks comeing without carpet from the factory, but this is the first one I have actually seen. It has no carpet, just a rubber "mat" type thing on the floor that matches the color of the interior. This is also a Detroit, Michigan built Maverick, the third one I have seen. I saved the package tray, grille, instrument cluster (can never have too many spare instrument cluster parts) and the radio with dash bezel from this car. It did have decent small bumpers and a fixable rear valance, but I was not able to get back quick enough to get those parts.

I flipped down the drivers side sun visor to find the original Warranty ID card, and every insurance card from 1989-2005. This was apparently a one owner car. Check out the dates on that insurance card! The policy went into effect in 1972 and expired in 2002 on that card. I have the last card which the insurance finally expired for good in 2005. This Maverick had the same insurance policy without interruption for 33 years!

They are located at the Pull-A-Part south of Atlanta off of I-675.

I wouldn't be surprised if a show like the one where the guy restores similar rods in a few weeks then takes 'em to the auction to sell, might would be interested.

The VIN is the most valuable part on that car it appears - but that could be enough to bring huge bux (there's probably enough knock-off parts to replace everything).

    Just thankin' out loud.

    It's a sad sight though. :(

All traces of the VIN and interior/axle codes on the car are gone. :( Someone took the tag off the door and dash, and the VIN is ground off the top of the fender apron.

Yes, it will be crushed. Cars stay on the yard for about a month or so.

That's what I meant to say. :slap:

Did you see if you can get a socket on the bottom 2 nuts on the rearend chunk? If so its a 9''... you can't do that with a 8''
Either way, it'd prob be a good donor rearend.... even just the pumpkin.

Someone out there has probably made a nice bundle off those two items - especially if they put them on a clone and sold it as being legit.

a friend and I found a huge junkyard hidden in the wilds of southern MO last summer.

We spotted at least 20 64-73 Fastbacks (there were at least 75 Mustangs), sadly, all were beyond saving, but many still had alot of valuable parts on 'em

there were also well over 2 dozen 67-69 Camaros, 70's Mopars, and even 4 football field-long rows of nothing but 62-64 Galaxies, and another 4 or 5 rows of Impalas. Many of the Galaxies and Impalas could be saved......there were quite a few viable Chevelle projects too.

Not to mention the 11 Mavericks I found, including 2 Grabbers and a Sprint.

My friend and I are taking his hardcore 4X4 Jeep CJ next visit, so we can access the other as yet unexplored 150+ acres of old cars
