just wondering what all the anti-pinto feelings are a result of? i dont really have any expierence with them myself to make my own opinion, i just listen in on what others have so say. i believe its all a result of thier infamous exploding characteristic? to me there not an entierly bad looking car, really not extreamly diffrent looking then a maverick. there also symbolic of a changing time in the automotive world. from high quality, low mpg boats to cheap low buck econo cars with good mpg. the same characteristics that seem to sell the most cars today
Well....................................It's like this: They're ugly, too small, and cheaply made. Some people like them, and nothing I say will change that, but since this is a Maverick/Comet discussion forum, I like to keep things related to them. There. Now ya have it...
properly set up, pintos make great drag cars, just like vegas and mavs/comets. and gremlins for that matter. and as far as ugly goes...when your goin that fast no'one can see anyway.
I know a couple of guys with Pintos that are damn proud of 'em. I think the reason I don't care for them is because my parents had one when I was a kid.......I see them all as "Mom's car" now I guess. The tiny back seat.....wow, they fit all three of us kids back there. I remember my sister having to sit in the middle on the "hump" because she was youngest. Whenever the car took a turn, she'd fall on either my brother or I and we'd push her back onto her hump, lol. Poor kid.
Three brothers, one sister, two step sisters...so believe me sweetheart, I was WAY worse that you!!! (I was the oldest)
Well, to make TL feel better, I totaled one once. I was not driving it, but nailed it at 30 mph in the rear end. It bent into an L shape in the middle, but didn't blow up. My fault, I know, but he had no brake lights, sitting still in the middle of the highway, no turn signals, etc. and I was putting along at 55-ish and talking to a friend in passenger seat, and by the time I recognized that he was not moving, I locked my brakes up and still hit him pretty hard. This was back when I was 18...
I have owned 3 of them, a sedan, a hatchback, and a wagon. All of them were great dependable cars. The sedan was hit in the side by a drunk in a Ford F-150 4x4 at 60 mph and it did not explode and I only cut my head on the rear view mirror and cracked my leg bone. (I was not wearing a seatbelt). I would love to get my hands on a rust-free small bumper Pinto! As far as being cheaply made; I love my '70 Maverick, but it is the cheapest made car I have ever owned.
