I think the reason Pintos got such a bad rep is that the media decided that they blew up when rearended more than a typical car.Kinda like 73-87 Chevy trucks were supposed to blow up when hit in the side(it was later discovered that the video the media showed where the truck burst into flames when broadsided was actually staged).I don't think they were screwed together any worse than any other '70s stuff, after all it was a throw-away car.And they have the most swapped out front suspension that I can think of and the v6 cars got the 8" rear.I do think the 2drs are a bit goofy looking, but the early wagons make a cute hot rod you can actually use.
I knew a guy who had a turbo 4 cyl(full cage lowered) pinto that was road raced regularly and was street driven.Sick fast car,That thing would go from a dead stop like a cat with its tail on fire.Come to think of it it sounded like one too.
