Inseparable. Can't one without the other. A bug T.L. thread will always mention Pintos and a Pinto thread will always bug T.L.
so do all these anti-pinto feelings also carry over to the mustang II, they wer pretty much the same right??
now pintos were cool but mustang II's were just fugly, probably because they get compared to other mustangs...
I kind of like them, but I've never owned one. I can't speak to how they perform. I think I like it better than what was next:
I had a white Cobra II with blue stripes, a 302 4bbl, 4 speed, posi. That muther was scary fast and awesome to drive. The Pinto looking ass end was the only part that I didn't like.
Actually, I respect the Mustang-II (even though it is basically a Pinto). It is much better-looking than a Pinto, and has great performance potential...
I have to agree with T.L there ( did I just say that??!!)....although I still think the "Cobra" II's overblown flares, ground effects and gaudy 70's disco paint (sticker) jobs were pretty silly looking, your basic Mustang II fastback had some nice clean lines. Ok, I'm a bit biased,....I just bought a Mustang II Mach-1 recently. I'm presently converting it to 5-lugs for a set of Bullitt wheels (I photoshopped the wheels on a M-II to see what it'd look like......a helluva lot better than that Pinto with the 20's IMHO!) And again, though I liked the Pinto wagon as far as looks went, I thought the coupes were pretty homely. And just smoking at 50,000 miles isn't going to kill a car's rep....remember the Vega......infamous for weak, crappy motors and starting to rust while still brand-new on the showroom floor...... they're still one of the most popular V-8 swap hot rods ever Face it, the Pinto wasn't a fancy "sports car" so it wasn't a real looker, It had the bad rep for ka-booming in an accident, and last but not least......it was what it was.... a cheapy econo-box..... How many low-buck econo-cars ever become beloved favorite classics anyway.... Besides the Maverick/Comets of course! Then again, the Pinto didn't have a V-8 option,.....and I don't remember any Pinto Grabbers or Bobcat GT's either.
Did you know that Lee Iacoca put the kabosh on a 16 dollar fix for the pinto while it was being designed??? I believe his words were "The pinto is going to be a 3thousand dollar car,not a 3thousand and 16 dollar car" The rest is history Kaboom!!!
I was offered a 48,000 mile 2 dr Pinto woody wagon today for $400. It's been parked since 94 and last driven in 00. It was a daily driver and was like new when parked. It would run he's sure of it. Considering it.
