I never understood why they called the Mustang one of their "small" cars? The 71's were the largest Mustangs ever built! Smaller than a LTD, but compared to a 64-66 or 67-68, they were boats!

 

I advise buying it, and killing it before it multiplies.

Yeah, by 1971 standards, a Maverick is a compact car. By today's standards, it's a mid-size...

 

what ever happened? Did you buy the Pinto? Did you pass on the # to someone else to buy it? I would definately be interested in the car because of it being a Sprint. It would complete my trio, since I already have the Mav and the Stang.

By the way, the 71-73 Stangs were only 2 inches longer than the 69-70's. They were made 2 inches wider to fit the 429 in it, but overall, my '72 is almost identical in length as my '69 Cougars. Personally, I like the body style and bought another '72 Sportroof this week.

By making them bigger, they opened the door for the Mavericks to come in and become a sales success. Just like the Oil Embargo helped the Mustang II an instant sucess. Both cars set sales records their first years.

hmmm ive never new pinto and mustang sprints existed until this forum wow i have alot to learn but if you buy that pinto you can get the mustang on ebay and then have the trio

for a car being of only so many made with a 429 its fairly cheap only like 20k on ebay and its a sprint

 

the stallion also came in a trio in 1976 between the maverick, pinto and mustang II

 

No Sprint Mustang came with a 429 engine. They were only available in the 351-2V or 351-4V versions. No ram air versions on the 2V either, since the NASA hood was not an option. The car on Ebay has been there a few times already with no bids.

I am certainly not a Pinto fan. However, I would also like this car, since it is a Sprint and I have the other 2 already. Finished, I am sure to own all 3 would be extremely rare and magazine material.

A "car buddy" (a Chevy guy) who "tips" me on cars he finds in his travels, stopped by the other day, was looking at my Mavericks, and asked if Ford had made any special edition cars that were white and blue....Not thinking (or wishful thinking) I replied "Like Shelby GT350 Mustangs?" He laughed, said "You wish!", then told me about how he spotted what looked like a Pinto, Maverick and Mustang in a big farm garage.....all of them in matching white and blue paint jobs. I told him they sounded like Sprints....one of each. He said they all looked nearly showroom quality, parked side-by-side. Sounds like someone has collected an example of each. he gave me general directions, the best he could remember....somewhere near or just over the AR/OK border.

Anyone in that area know about them?

I have to pick up a 429 engine in Tulsa in the next couple of weeks....he said he'd tag along and see if he can find the place with the Sprint triplets....if we find it, I'll see if I can get some pics and find out the "status" of the cars (doubt they're for sale...sounds like a cherished collection, but you never know)
