I had 3 hours to kill in a town I'd never been before, so I took a cruise around & saw they had a Wal-Mart. I went in to check out their selection of Fresh Cherries, expecting to find the usual Pintos & Gremlins. I was wrong. They had the new 1:24 scale Mavericks & Comets! They had a few of each (Mavericks in yellow & Comets in green) so I picked up one of each. ...and the hits just keep on coming! They also had the 1:64 Mavericks in blue that I haven't been able to find. I was like a kid at Christmastime! :yahoo:

Funny thing is, I ordered 4-car sets of each of the 1:24s because I thought I'd never find them in the store. Well, when I got home, I found that the Fed Ex guy had delivered the box sets. My son set them all up on the kitchen counter & had them lined up like a dealership.

The cars are well done. The only weird thing is the stubby radio antennas & e-brake on the trans hump between the bucket seats on the Mav. The Comet has a bench seat. The cool thing is the doors are full frame, not just the lower halves, like a lot of die-casts. The doors & hood open & they have steerable wheels. The Comet even has a seperate hood lip moulding.

Here are a few pics of the cars & what the box sets look like:

Although its cool that they are making them, I got the Comet set the other day and I cant say that it is a true reproduction. The roof line is way too tall and the tail lights way too big. Just being picky I guess.

They are the same. Fresh Cherries is a series by Motor Max. If you look on the Fresh Cherries box, it says Motor Max.

you never noticed how unproportionate the 1:64's were too? compare a FC to a JL and you'll see what i mean.

guess i, gonna have to check out the local wallmart today
    ;)

I have not found any in Florida. Just Pinto's, Vega's and Gremlin's.

last time i was in my walmart they had 2 yellow mavs and 2 of the gold colored comets. if anyone needs them i would go back and get them if they still have them. cost would be about $11 + shipping. i think with tax they come to about $10.87. i would guess between $4 and $5 for the shopping.:)
