I have a stock 1972 Grabber. Does anyone recommend 15" or leave the 14" rims on the car... also what tire size would look good on the car without any modifications???? thanks Chaz.
Mine are 215/60 on 15X7 front, 255/60 on 15X8 rear (see pic). Several sizes will fit, just depends on your personal preference.
I would like all the tires to match.. I had 2 differnt size tires on my 70 Mach1 and all the construction around me i was ALWAYS picking up nails on the road and had to carry 2 spares and toook my trunk space up... that was the pits! does a 14 ride differnt than a 15" rim? CHaz
Shouldn't ride any different. I have seen late 90s mustangs with 15X7 rims carrying 225/60s all around. and they looked beefy, stout, and aggressive, without looking oversized. I bet many guys on here have similar sized tires. It is a bit wider than the stock (195/70s on 14 rims, if I am not mistaken) but don't look like balloons, yet also don't look like bicycle tires... Do a search on the members images and try to nail down what you think looks good, then ask what size they are running. Some may list the tire sizes in the descriptions.
If the 15" tire is also taller it will generally ride better due to a larger footprint front to back.
If you keep the tire diameter the same, a larger rim will shorten the sidewall and stiffen the ride. Sidewall is where the ride quality is at. Nothing wrong with making it shorter, it will handle better. Nothing wrong with making it taller either, it will ride better. Depends what you want.
Reading this thread and I am still unsure of what I want, havent hadd the car long and am wanting to change the wheels to Crager's but trying to decide on sizes front and rear. Right now the car has P235/60/14's all the way around. Would appreciate any advise and I am going largely for LOOKS. Thanks, Tommy
I would definitely go with 15's. If you want the same size, 15X7's all around would be good with a 225 or 235R15 tire. I personally like a larger tire on the rear. A 225 on front and 245 on rear worked great on 15X7 rim on the last car I put wheels on.
My dad's Maverick has new 225/70/14's on a 14X6 wheel. Which is the max size recomended for that size of wheel. We did put 225/70/14's on the front, but they rubbed. So we have to go smaller in the front. If you have 225/70/14's in the back what size would you go with on the front?
Thanks and Rayzor as far as keeping wheels same size I dont have to do that if something else looks better. I want what will look the best, or are you saying keeping 15X7 all then way around looks the best with Larger tires on the rear?
I'm not saying it looks the best to have all 15X7's...just the easiest. My preference would be to have a deeper dish on the rear. But then my car has 3 1/2 on front and 10's on back. But without getting too big you could go with 6" or 7" wide on front and 8" on back to achieve a good look.
