I have a shop neighbor who has a 1940s truck in his shop. He has put alot of work into it as alot of us have. He could put it back together but he has this problem. About a year after the truck was painted, he was told he had a week to move it and all the pieces out due to a change in ownership where the truck was located. So... he found himself ,with a suggestion of a friend, tarping the truck fenders and hood with a sheet of plastic. Now, 10 months later, he has discovered that the plastic has adheared to the paint. Any suggestions on getting it off? It comes off with a little effort of scratching it with your finger nails. Using almost anything else seems it may scratch...
try that stuff , i think it's called goo gone. can find it at walmart or most grocery stores. i just removed some tape glue that stuck to my fifth wheel and hardened.
He said that it was a thin sheet that was so big he was able to cover the parts individuly. It feels to me about as thin/thick as wax paper or a cheap plastic grocerie bag.
I had that happen to a Mustang I painted. I thought it would be a good idea to cover it with plastic and then a tarp cause it had to sit outside for a spell. Luckily for me, it only stuck on the trunk. I ended having to sand it off. Glad I had 5 coats of clear on it. If he has clear coat, it can be sanded off. If not, it can still be sanded off, but the paint goes with it.
He was trying this the other day. I suggested for him to let it sit overnight with a shop towel covering it (I almost said a plastic bag lol, he admired my sense of humor lol). He is really afraid to use almost anything at all, so I guess leaving it on for a while dosent sound good to him. It is his intention to "show" this truck so he is trying to not have to paint it cause he thinks the whole truck will have to be painted or it wont look the same. He says that he has 5k investd in the paint, that was a buddy deal too. The rest of the truck looks really good. Sad... I suggested wet sanding with like 1000 grit. This he may try, last.
