I am considering staying 14" rims and going with Crager SS wheels in 14x7. I have read about wheels till my head hurts. I simply need a rim size that will fit without a doubt (other than the stock 6"). Do Cragers come in a 4" backspace in 14x7 and if so do they fit? Is the offset hole the same as unilug. Are these safe for daily drivers. Silly questions I know, I'm just trying to make heads or tails out of all this info.
14x7 will fit fine as long as they're not a reverse dish. With the proper lugs they're safe for driving, although I'm not a fan of the Crager S/S construction.I'd rather have Torque Thrusts or Crager street stars(looks like a Weld pro star, only chrome steel-cheaper but heavier)
Cragar 14 x 7 Reverse wheel will fit a Maverick just fine. Got them on my orange 1972. No tire rub with 235/60.
i have 14 by 7 inch cragers on one of mine with 225 70 14's thats about as much tire as you can put in there without rubbing
I am running Cragar S/S's, 15x6 front with 215/70-15's and 15x8 rear with 245/60-15's and could easily go with 255/60's. Especially after I flipped the E-brake cable retainer on the rear leaf's, that gave me another 3/8's of and inch clearance. No way, no how with 275/60's, though. Understand that I am not a fan of the unilug with these or Keystone Classics, would much rather have an exact lug bolt circle, however, I do recheck the torque regularly, especially if I am going on a road trip over 100 miles roundtrip. I just keep the lug wrench on the floor behind my seat. It only takes 2 minutes tops to check all 4 wheels, I spend more time than that just setting the air pressure where I want it. I have never lost a Cragar, I have lost a Keystone, fortunately it was a 15x10 and I felt the vibration and had presence of mind to ease off the gas and NOT jam on the brakes. I just rolled lightly into the next turn out of an old closed store's parking lot and then the wheel came off, and that is when that extra width helped, the brake drum held onto the wheel and I rolled to a stop with the wheel pinched to the ground with the drum. I then had the pleasure of jacking up the truck removing that wheel and putting on my spare, AFTER I recut the threads on the 3 remaining usable studs using motor oil off the dipstick. It was a great day. Oh, forgot to mention I was pulling a trailer with scrap metal and the truck bed was loaded, too. Off the soapbox and I will un-hijack the thread at this point. rk
I had 14x8 reverse on the rear of mine for years, had to run a 1/4 spacer. So I agree on them working on the rear if you want to run a 14X7 reverse. But I have also found out that some cars are just a tweak different and all of them are not the same, that I dont know why. Dan
If you swap to Granada disc brakes on the front, a 14x7 Magnum is awfully close to the caliper. Had a rough weld rubbing it. Don't know if you would have more or less room with a Cragar. 15x7 is fine on mine now. The extra diameter gives plenty of room.
