    Matt,
It's ok if you want to bail. Many of us have drained our fuel systems, topped off all oils, lubed chassis, got out the covers, and lowered 'em onto blocks due to soaring energy prices.
Join us! It may be the wave of the future. We'll have contests to see who can go the longest without driving 'em.

Of course it gets close & something goes wrong. My Comet is running like crap. I put the MSD distributor & 6A box in it this week. It still runs like crap. Cliff seems to think it's the carb. He's going to help me dive into Saturday when he gets here. Hopefully it'll be up & running for Sunday. If not, I'll take the 77 maverick. Either way, I'll be there....

Did it act up before or after the ignition changes?

Coop, what kinda carb are you running? I have a Holley double pumper I could bring up and we could try it.

It acted up before the ignition changes. That's why I changed everything out. The vaccum advance wasn't working on the stock distributor. I figured that was the problem. Still runs the same....

I have the Holley Street Avenger carb 570cfm.... Got a list of parts I need for the carb, from Cliff. He says it probably has sucked some dirt into the carb. It has been on the car for 5 years, & I've done nothing to it. We'll give it a shot. If you want to bring the Holley just in case, that would be awesome...

    msd 6a

I had a terrible time with the factory connections between my 6AL and the distributor. The magnetic pick-up wires had a layer of grease on the connector. I think the grease somehow deteriorated the connection (don't ask me how, it was right out of the box). I was just about to send the whole thing back before I tried one more time and cut the connector end off and hard wired it. Worked great after that.

(I understand that the msd box might not be the problem if it was running poor before, but it doesn't hurt to check - that box should light up anything).

    Noted.
The 6A is very good at "finding" weaknesses in the system and can short and or carbon track in places where the stock system wouldn't.

But in this case, it may not be ignition if it was acting up before the changes.
Keep us posted on any further developments.

    vacuum

What you might also check out is if the leg that goes from your vacuum plate engages the advance ring properly. On mine (duraspark II) there was a post on the end of the vacuum leg which goes through a hole in the advance ring and secures on the top side with an e-clip. The e-clip was missing, and the post had fallen down, so it wasn't working right. You can look down into your distributor and see if that's the case.
