Cliff & everybody got here at 11pm. Cliff got the carb back together with the exception of 2 gaskets that wasn't in the kit. I'll have to go to Shucks forst thing in the morning....

    Learning to trust the car...

Well... the cruise to GET THERE is all part of the fun... a little risky with an old car but then if anything ever happens roadside it's usually easy to fix. Anything happens to a NEW car I wouldn't even bother with a tool box... just a cel phone to call a tow truck and the wait to get a $2000.00 bill for fixing something ridiculous.

I was worried about my car, since the tires were so bad, and I actually had decided NOT TO GO... but good ol' Cliff urged me to make the trip and we crossed the border in a "chain" in case anyone had a problem. We had to make two pit stops on the way so I could readjust and inspect my tires (almost hit a few cars driving on the inside lane beside me). Going home alone and waiting at the border was scary... the 'vapour lock' in my near-boiling little engine probably gassed out the people behind me (had to sit there revving it for 1/2 hour). But if anything had happened, it's just a cel call to one of the group and a little wait until help would arrive.

I guess the uncertainty of the road trip is part of the fun... and getting back home again afterwards ends the adventure. I was worried about the points & regulator in mine (don't know how old they are) but it didn't miss a beat on the highway. I know my car better now (I've had it 6 months... this is the first long drive) and I heard a few new rattles I need to look at in the near future.

Hope you make the next one... it's a good way to build up trust in the ol' jalopies ;)

    Home Again

It was fun meeting all you folks. I learned that half my master cylinder was drained by the time I got home - I guess I should have checked a little better for leaks after my brake job - and I'm glad it didn't fail completely on the pass! Now I've got to track that leak down and bleed again. What fun.

    wups... couple loose bolts...

    hmm... guess I was lucky...

Last week I degreased the motor and put in a new valve cover gasket... tightened it a day later; but then noticed some minor leaks on the cruise but not much to worry about... today I got home from work and the engine was smoking... my clean little six is drenched in oil... all the bolts were loose.

I guess the rubber gaskets take longer to "seat" than cork? :hmmm:

Been ages since I changed one of these. Gotta re-clean the engine tomorrow and watch for leaks. But the important thing is...

it looked good when people checked under the hood in Seattle :thumbs2:

I had a great time at the Colby show It was cool to meet everyone who made it and check out their cars. Thanks again for giving me a ride down to the show Cliff. It was very nice of Coop to let us all crash at his place the first night. I can't wait to get my car on the road.
