A buddy of mine has a AWD and needs 2 tires on it.

    It has 255/70-16s on it, I have 2 235/85-16s

What im wondering is if its full time AWD and would it hurt it if we put these tires on it. Considering only a inch difference...

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
    255/70-16 7.0in 15.0in 30.1in 94.4in 671 0.0%
    235/85-16 7.9in 15.9in 31.7in 99.7in 636 5.6%

I've been told by my GM dealer that it can have an affect on the transfer case, I don't really understand the whole idea, but everytime I take my truck in they check the tread depth and worry about it, the tire on one side has more than the other.

Does it have a switch to turn the 4-wheel drive on/off?

    Update:

I read his owners manual, that I assumed he didnt have

Its A4WD.... basically its a 2 wheel drive unless the rear slips and then it provides power to the front.

Theres just about 1 1/2 difference in these tires. I told him he could have them, but not to use the 4WD at all, not until he can get 2 more tires.

Why my friends decided to trade off a paid for truck for one that needs tires is beyond me. lol Of course it was a dodge he got rid of

The tires wont work then. The gem module will see the difference in wheel speed as a slip. And try to engage it.

    Hrm, never thought about that.

I haven't given him the tires yet, so I'll just tell him they wont work
