HHO contains the oxygen and hydrogen needed for complete combustion - you should be able to run it in a closed system. The Space shuttle uses HHO to launch into space - that big external tank is filled with hydrogen and oxygen. They burn tons of it to get into space in addition to the two solid propellant rocket motors to help lift the full tank.
The Smack Booster web site says that the system uses 16 amps when cold and 20 amps when warmed up. They say to use a 30 amp fuse or breaker. My calculations were based on their numbers.
The Gulsby Family site says they are working on the development of a 2 liter per minute system - that would mean that you would need 120 liter unit to travel for two hours - 30 imperial gallons! With a 30 gallon (not imperial) tank of fuel I could drive for 10 hours at 60 mph.....
This whole fad is a fraud on the public - just like the "water injection" and "alcohol injection" systems of the 1980s. Have fun with it, explore the possibilities, but don't expect to match the claims made by the people selling these things. It's all snake oil and used cars.

:burnout:
I went back and read that whole post that was made by this individual and his facts and saw the websites he put up to substantiate his facts I was just wondering if you noticed this

"before they dismiss electrolysis as a viable fuel economy booster, they need to do a little more research.
• The single best source of information regarding alternative energy research that I've found is the "Practical Guide to Free Energy Devices". (In particular, study sections D6, D7, D15, D17.) This set of documents contains research papers, complete plans for some devices, as well as patent information on some devices and methods. Granted, some of the information seems to be bogus, but much of it is reproducible and empirically provable."

I agree that it needs to be revisited but I have a hard time using a website or something like that for facts when "some of the information seems to be bogus"... That is the problem with all of these websites about this stuff, even the testimonials, they tell you they got 48mpg for three days on old pickle juice and an aquifina, they don't tell you they are driving a geo metro in a tailwind downhill and they don't go over 35mph the whole time.
I am very skeptical about this information...especially when you read that "Stanley Meyer is thought to have died of UN known food poisoning, " (google Stanley Meyer if you don't believe me, he is supposed to be one of the pioneers of this technology) one of the guys I worked with here started talking like that due to a drug addiction. He got walked off the premisises after he came to work wearing a tinfoil hat so the aliens wouldn't invade his brain.......(the scary part is I am telling the truth he was finally diagnosed with a drug induced Schizophrenia)....

(oh and so you don't think we are all crack addicts here. I work for the aircraft control systems division www.parker.com/portal/site/PARKER/ we make flight controls for most military and civilian aircraft)

Just think, if you ran a hydrogen powered engine in a boat you'd never have to refuel.

Without reading the plans that were linked too... most electrolysis generators require a consumable electrode, what does this plan use? Back in the 80s one of the Japanese car companies had a electrolysis powered car running around, it's consumable electrode was a large spool of aluminum wire. The electrode cost more than gasoline at that time...

this also was done by...Bruce Simpson

"I recall (it's in my book) that when I was a young fellow, I attempted to light the hydrogen gas that I knew was being generated when I was charging a small motorcycle battery. The results were very sudden and quite frightening -- not something I'll be trying again."

I know a guy up in NC that had his face severely and permanently disfigured the same way. He was charging the battery in his car, and noticed the battery charger wasn't getting a good connection after the battery had already been charging for an hour or so. So he started wiggling the cables around, and the sparks caused the battery to explode. It almost killed him. Battery's are not something to play around with.

A guy did the same thing in high school automotive class, there was pieces of the battery all over the shop, and they rushed him to the hospital, beyond that I don't remember much......

I have absolutley no idea what any of this means? You followed a link I posted and now are complaining about something that has nothing to do with the link, or Mythbusters. And really Im not sure what It has to do with the arguement at hand?

Anyway, Ive got the supplies ordered. Should be here wednesday. It's only enough to make one unit. Ive been told you need one unit per liter of engine size, which would mean I need five. Ill hook this one up by itself and run it before making four more.

My "testing" and "test results" will be posted whether good or bad with each tank as I experiment with this. I am going into this unbiased. Before I start Ill post a fuel log for the past year so I can't be accused of "tampering" to change the results. My past year has a total average of 11.71MPG

Also, I make every fill up at the local Shell station, pump # 5, and fill it up to the neck. I make the same 8 mile round trip every day, and already drive for fuel economy.

Any other controls that need to address before I start this experiment? If this does happen to work I don't want to nay sayers to come up with 100 reasons of way it didnt...

actually it is on the same link if you scroll down and continue reading his full statement at the bottom of the page you would have seen it:hmmm:

i was thinking about water injection back in the 80's that used the heat from the engine to break the water into it's core components....

I did see/read it. But what does that particular website have to do with anything discussed here? Yes, it's on the same subject, but you can't say this whole thing is a scam just because one website has "questionable info". That's like saying all black people are theives because one broke into your home.

Or did I completly miss your point altogether?

It is not just this one website it is all of them, most of them give many different claims and refer back to this same source as viable evidence. Usually when multiple groups do the same thing and share the same source database they all attain similar results. Instead you see groups that claim 20% improvement but others claim 40% 50% or even more, but they all use a similar technology......

You can read more on the subject here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water-fuelled_car

Now before you say I am getting off of the subject you should look at this stuff because alot of these sites refer to these gentlemen in multiple places as the pioneers of this technology. Check out more on Stanly Meyer and read a little about him
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Meyer
or you can read from his fansite
http://waterpoweredcar.com/stanmeyer.html

"He was a shame to hear that he was poisoned (March 98') and longer with us. He died in the parking lot of a restaurant in his home town of Grove City, Ohio. Sharks came a week later and stole the the dune buggy and all of his experimental equipment, according to his brother, Steve."

another one is
Herman P. Anderson
http://waterpoweredcar.com/herman.html#herman
(i am sorry but I think it is funny on a page promoting him it has a picture of him at the top standing in front of a Honda Insight and it says underneath that it is his Chevy Cavalier)

"He emphasized that deuterium (heavy water) was essential to his approach, doubling the density of the hydrogen, making it twice as powerful. He also used high voltage, 70,000 volts to be exact, from two custom-made coils, to effect rapid separation of the component gases, a process which he calls 'radiolysis.' The 70,000 volts constitute what he calls a 'soft' x-ray, not radioactive but in need of shielding....

To increase the power of the hydrogen, he irradiated it making deuterium. The extra proton was more than enough to allow the engine to achieve full power. It is good to get Deuterium built up in your piston walls, from the hydrogen so the water exhaust will not rust out the motor. They say AMSCO synthetic oil helps deal with the water in the oil better, helps it vaporize the water molecules."...taken from
http://waterpoweredcar.com/herman.html#herman

There is alot of interesting theories on this subject but there is one thing that is missing.... tangible consistently reproducible evidence.
I really do hope it works for you I would like to see this to be a viable option to improve fuel economy...Sad to say the instant fuel economy gimicks just seem to fade away into non existence they don't make up for proper maintinance and sensable driving...remember when these guys were popular http://www.tornadoair.com/

Ultimately you need to do it to someone elses car (girlfriend...wife) and not tell them about it, or have someone else drive your car unknowingly being the test subject.

They need to drive for several weeks while you record data on the fuel efficency they recieve with their driving habits, then you need to put it in the vehicle and monitor the data for several weeks noting the difference. That will give you a more substantiated basis.

Unfortunitely you are going to drive anticipating a result, be it either good or bad, therefore it is a flawed test.:(
