well im moving into the city for school and my apartment is just far enough that itd take too long to walk without being a hassle.

Ive been thinking of getting a little 50cc 2stoke moped to tinker around with and get me to school with. the engines are small and simple enough that i can park it on the porch and work on it. also 100+ mpg doesnt sound too bad.:D

i dont want one of those grandma looking scooters though:biglaugh:. i mean like one of the pedal mopeds. I especially like the 70s fuel crisis era mopeds and would love to find one.

Ive been lookin around here lately and cant really seem to find what i want..:(

so if any of you have an old one just sitting in the garage or storage, or even if you know someone who has one please please PLEASE help a starving student out!

around here the cheapest i can really find is $600+

im going for DIRT cheap though, like up to $300. I dont really mind if the engine isnt running or starting or anything like that as most problems with mopeds can be fixed by cleaning carbon buildup from various places.

Thats what I meant, new ones on there.

Some people sell them for a living on craigslist instead of a "store"

you mean like the old Honda Express? Boy, that takes me back!, I remember those buzzing all over my high school back in the late 70's, early 80's

there's a few on ebay, pretty cheap,... and tons of parts available.....

Here's one from your neck-of-the-woods....but pricey since it's in pretty cherry, like new condition.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/80-H...ryZ42593QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Those were a hoot to drive back then.

I thought I remembered the early Express had the pedals option.....most I'm finding don't.

I've got a Honda Spree that I use for a pit bike. I really like it and there's a ton of parts on ebay for them. I think mine was an 84. It was the last year with a kick start and also had the electric start. I paid $400 for it.:)

Damn, I feel old...I remember advertisements for the Hondas running 100 mpg...

To me, at that time, they were a lazy alternative to my BMX bike, but now, they seem to hold much more flak....with gas at over 3.50 a gallon...

I still have my old moped in the back of the garage, a sweet '99 Motorhispania Furia that would do 70mph+ :p

Called it that because it's been sitting in the garage since 2004 or something like that :p
I do think it's one of the best looking mopeds ever made though :)
