if you drive to the store and come back right away and start the car it runs rough and sometimes dies. i took the idle speed control off yesturday and spraid carb cleaner in it but that didnt do anything. it was really dirty do you think is could be bad ? ps doesnt do it all the time (3.0 6cyl) and it runs great once you clear it out....................
could be a number of things. try to get it scanned for any active or stored codes.... that might point you in the right direction
went to autozone they checked with a scanner and nothing. they said if engine light doesnt come on no code....................
just goes to show what the 'cheap' scanners do for ya....that's why the parts houses use them. as for the rough idle, i'd just start your basic trouble shooting. start with plugs, then wires, then coil, etc., etc.,... but that's just me talking
you got a good point............but the only thing is i hate trial and error stuff it cost to much money. i may do pluggs anw wires because ive had it for 2 years and not done that yet. car has 175000 miles on it....................
Your rough idle could be caused by a bad DPFE sensor, bad egr solenoid/egr valve.(these will cause your intermittent stumble)as well as a persistent one.Go through the basics first.Plugs, clean out throttle body.Maf may be dirty or malfunctioning as well. The list goes on,a good scan tool is allmost pre-requsite for these cars.Hope this stuff helps you some.I would start by cleaning the throttle body and go from there.
ya changed filter last month................thanks for your ideas maybe ill see if i can get a good scanner first...................
Had an IAC fail on a '99 Taurus. Went from running like new to horrible idle/dieing when stopped. $50 later the car ran like new. Didn't show a CEL, BUT did have a code when scanned.
Notorious on any fuel injected car, I have had one go bad on a 95 Beretta, a 98 Buick Skylark, and a 98 jeep wrangler. Gotta quit buying these high mileage cars just to go to work in....
never mind (idle air control) going to pick one up at autozone 48.00 see what happens..........................
