I bought a Honda.

Good deal! I myself love hondas, they are great DD's and are almost a must have with todays gas prices. Over the years I've had a 1991 CRX Si, 1990 CRX Si, 93 Del Sol Si, 93 Civic EX, 90 Accord, and a 89 Civic DX.

Here's my 90 CRX Si.

 

I put 1,500 miles on the car and sold it yesterday for $300. Not bad. The car also paid for itself in gas savings driving it back and forth to work for a month and a half vs. driving our '95 Mustang.

Now I'll be back to driving my '92 Sentra E. Bought this car for $400 in August of last year, and it too has paid for itself. The original engine and 4 speed trans are extremely tired in this car, with 531k miles on it. Leaks oil, burns oil, clutch slips bad, trans grinds going into 3rd gear, and on and on.. I picked up a '93 Sentra XE last weekend, found it on craigslist. Some woman had $2,300 worth of work done on the car this time last year, with receipts to prove it, had a 29,000 original mile engine put in it, had the optional 5 speed trans in it rebuilt, and a new clutch put in it. Has working factory cruise control. Also has a Pioneer CD player and Sony speakers. It's a one owner car and the interior is super clean. All these parts are going in my '92. Three months after all that work on it, her son rear ended someone and tore it up pretty good. Picked it up for $500 (or really $200 factoring in the money from the Honda, and even less then that once I scrap the body after getting all the good parts off). I'm going to swap the engine and trans into my '92 this weekend and the rest will follow as I have time.

Started the engine swap this past Sunday afternoon by pulling the original engine and trans out of the Sentra. Took 4 hours. Didn't even have to take the hood off.

Oh, their panty droppers, no doubt. I drive the Sentra heavily in the summer months, beings it's the only car I own that has working A/C. Plus, It's extremely easy to make money on these old beaters if you play your cards right. I could sell that Sentra for $1,200 and make a nice profit, and most of them go for more like $1,500-2,500 around here in comparable shape depending on mileage.

Your awful brave picking that motor up on dirt w/ your nice car parked next to it.

I've seen them sink down just a tad bit and the motor starts swinging, next thing you know its crashed into something

 

that's a good deal for the money, but personally i only buy the Honda's that are made for the woods (atv's)

Yea, I've had that happen pulling a 360/C6 (heavy as $#!t) out of my '71 F250. Now that engine hoist is permanently bent to the left a little from that. So if it fell, it would have fell away from the Maverick. That little GA16DE and 4 speed trans don't weigh squat though. After that pic, I set the engine on the ground and my cousin and I literally just picked it right up by hand and carried it off without a problem. It hasn't rained in a while, and it was pretty cold out also, making the ground nice and hard. So everything was pretty stable.

I always love taking that car to get the oil changed. Or when I had new tires put on it. The guys looks when they get in it and see the mileage is priceless.

I'd be lying if I said the thought hadn't crossed my mind.

 

You guys are lucky, in Ontario we have to have a safety inspection done after we purchase a vehicle.This makes buying and driving 300.00 cars almost impossible.

 

They don't let you guys have guns or cheap cars.... do they limit lovin' too?

 

I don't see any reason why either of these vehicles wouldn't pass a safety inspection. All lights, horn, seat belts, brakes, everything works fine in both the Honda and Nissan. Both have clear titles. Both cars are totally rust free, though I'm sure it would be almost impossible to find these types of cars with no rust up there. Both cars failed emissions inspections in Atlanta, though.

Not only do I drive two Hondas but I work @ a Honda dealer in the parts dept. I have a 91 SI hatch with 198,00 and car is near mint. Also drive a 2006 Ridgeline with 79,000 on it already. I'll be using the Ridge to tow our new Maverick back an forth to the body shop and the spring shop. Now the hunt is on for some new grabber parts for the clone make over ...
